Elliott is mightiest at Cresco in JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature

CRESCO, Iowa (June 23, 2011) – Mark Elliott became the fourth different winner in as many JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour events this season, topping Thursday’s IMCA Modified series feature at Cresco Speedway.

The $1,000 victory came during the Mighty Howard County Fair. Already qualified for the 2012 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Elliott motored his way to the winner’s circle by avoiding the accident that collected front-running Ronn Lauritzen and Richie Gustin, then held off J.J. Wise as the 30-lapper wound down.

Wise ended up with second place points and pay. Jeff Waterman, Kurt Krauskopf and Troy Cordes rounded out the top five.

Lauritzen drew the pole start and dueled with Gustin through the first 10 circuits before both were collected by a third car.

Elliott had been running close behind and inherited the lead. Dogged by Wise the last 15 times around the track, Elliott saw his challenger pull even with two laps left before he could pull ahead for the checkers.

Point leader Ryan Dolan was running in the top four before breaking with less than 10 laps left and was relegated to 14th place.

Next up for Hawkeye Dirt Tour drivers is the Thursday, June 30 event at Lee County Speedway, when IMCA Modifieds headline the fourth annual Liberty Cup special in another $1,000 to win feature.

IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are also on the card at Donnellson and chase $500 top checks.
