20th HARRIS CLASH FOR IMCA MODIFIEDS ON TUESDAY, JULY 5

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (July 2, 2011) - This Tuesday, July 5, marks a milestone in International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) modified stock car racing history as the twentieth Harris Clash takes place at the legendary Knoxville Raceway. To date, seventy-eight teams from nine states have pre-entered the prestigious $2,000-to-win event, including NASCAR star Kenny Schrader, now of Concord, North Carolina.

This year’s event, again a joint promotion between Bob Harris Enterprises and the Marion County Fair Association, features a new format. There will be a five-minute mid-point stop on lap 15, whereby changes may be made to the economy modified stock cars. The $2,000-to-win race will then be restarted for the final 15 laps. A $500 bonus will be paid to the winner if his car manufacturer is an official Harris Clash Manufacturers Cup participant and an additional $500 bonus will be paid to the leader of lap fifteen. Official Harris Clash Manufacturers Cup participants include BMS, Dirt Works, Harris Auto Racing, Razor, Larry Shaw, Shryock, and Victory Chassis.

According to Knoxville director of racing Ralph ‘Cappy’ Capitani, “We are thrilled that Bob Harris is again bringing his popular and prestigious Harris Clash to the Knoxville Raceway. Although it has a rich history and heritage here since 1996, people don’t realize that it was run at Webster City twice, Boone and Harlan for its first four years of existence. We are also proud that the dirt late model and sport modified portion of the growing event will be back here on Tuesday, July 26.”

Besides Kenny Schrader, who has run sprint cars and dirt late model stock cars at Knoxville over the course of his long career, other entrants for this year’s twentieth Harris Clash special event include former winners Jay Noteboom (2009) of Iowa, Clayton Christensen (2007) of Iowa, and Johnny Saathoff (2001) of Nebraska. In addition, John Allen of Kansas, Adam Birck of Missouri, Brett Boyer of Colorado, Bill Davis, Jr., of Iowa, Jimmy Gustin of Iowa, Adam Larson of Iowa, David Murray of Kansas, Dan Ratajczak of Wisconsin, Kevin Stoa of Minnesota, and Jeff Waterman of Illinois.

The 2011 Harris Clash is a qualifying event for the 2012 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot and IMCA national, home region and Allstar Performance state points will be awarded to all competitors. Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m., the draw closes at 6 p.m., hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7:15 p.m. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $8 for students (age 13-18), $4 for kids (age 6-12) and free for youngsters (age 5 and under). Pit passes are $25 and no one under the age of 16 will be allowed in the pits.

Night two of the Harris Clash is Tuesday, July 26, and features the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Lodels in a $2,000-to-win event, along with Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods in a $750-to-win race.
