by: Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IA (July 2, 2011) - Saturday was Rotman Motor Company Mid-Season Championship and Tommy Timmerman got to award trophies to a couple of previous winners and three new faces to victory lane, including two fellows that picked up their first ever feature wins.  One of the first ever winners came in the Ricky Rox Mobile DJ Service Hobby Stock division.  Mike McGarry led the first lap with Shawn Flagel taking over on lap two.  By lap ten it had became a three car battle up front with Matt Short moving out front.  Short went on to take his first ever feature win.  Flagel held on for second with Justin Yarolem taking third.  Josh Neal was fourth with Matt McGranahan fifth.

The Gade Racing Engines/Shirts’n’Stuff IMCA Modified feature started right out with battles as third place starter, Matt Irwin led the first lap with Tim Arp leading lap two.  Irwin came back to lead lap three eith Arp taking over again on lap four.  A tenth lap restart had Arp out front, now with Jake Bowman putting the pressure on him.  On lap fifteen Bowman went out front and on for his second win this season.  Arp held on for a strong second with eleventh place starter, Doug Crampton third and twelfth place starter, Joe Beal fourth.  Matt Wilson rounded out the top five.

The Straight Pipes Plus Street Stock feature had a problem getting started with a six car pile up before a lap was scored.  When the race got going it was Dan Mohr out front with Timmy Current right on his heels.  At lap six the caution flew for Kevin Yarolem as he rolled his car off turn one.  Kevin was unharmed and the restart had things in the same order.  On a last lap charge Current went out front to take his fifth trip to victory lane this seasaon, with Mohr holding on for second.  After being involved in that first caution and having to go to the rear, Emily Gade came back to take third with Chip Kohl fourth and Kevin Brame fifth.

Coming to take the green for the third B & D Pit Stop IMCA Late Model heat Ryan Duhme rolled his car off turn four.  Ryan was not only OK he made a quick trip and returned with a back up car and was able to make the feature call.  Pole sitter, Travis Denning took the early lead of the feature, but a tenth lap caution got to him, as on the restart Joe Zrostlik moved out front bringing Gary Webb with him.  At lap nineteen twelfth place starter Ray Guss Jr moved into second and tried poutting the pressure on Zrostlik.  The caution flew with three laps to go to bring the field back up tight.  Zrostlik wasn’t letting anybody by as he went on for his first win of the year.  Guss was second with Webb a strong third.  Terry Neal was fourth with Joe Ross fifth.

Front row starter, Ross Neal jumped out front of the Hawkeye Auto 4 Stock feature and despite a second lap caution never looked back as he led flag to flag for his first ever feature win.  Jake Ellithorpe was a strong second with a battle going on behind him for third.  Jake Montoya ended up taking the spot with Chris Holmlund fourth.  On his first visit to the speedway, thirteenth place starter, Mike Barten rounded out the top five.
