Guss and Dominacki repeat at Davenport
by  Mike McGuire

DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 8, 2011) – It was a picture perfect night for racing at the Davenport Speedway and the drivers in all four classes put on an excellent show for the fans.

The Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model class finally saw its first repeat winner of the 2011 season, as Ray Guss Jr., made it back to back wins. The late model feature started with pole sitter Travis Denning leading the first six laps of the race. Stephan Kammerer would lead lap seven, before Guss blasted into the lead a lap later. Despite two late race cautions, Guss would cruise to victory.

Gary Webb started second, fell back a few positions, and made a late race charge to finish second. Matt Ryan was third, with Nate Bueseling fourth, and Kammerer fifth. Late model heat wins went to Guss, Ryan, and Andy Nezworski.

Bob Dominacki also scored back to back wins in the EMS IMCA Modifieds. Todd Dykema jumped out to the early lead of the mod feature, but then brought out the race’s first caution on lap three. On the restart, Matt Stein took over the lead and would hold it until lap nine, when Dominacki grabbed the point. Dominacki would lead the remaining laps en route to the checkered flag. The win was Bob’s third of the season at Davenport.

Joe Beal drove to a solid second place finish, with Stein, Thad Wilson, and Brian Webb rounding out the top five. Dominacki, Beal, and Dykema were modified heat winners.

Jeremy Marquette picked off feature win number four in the Koehler Electric Street Stocks. Marquette went to the lead after a lap five caution, and led the rest of the way for the win. Early race leader, Andrew Burk, finished second, ahead of Chris Lawrence. Cary Brown recovered from an early caution to finish fourth, with Tony VonDresky, in the #00, fifth.

Two caution flags waved before a lap was scored in the LuJacks Northpark Auto Plaza 4 Stock feature. Once the race went green, Aaron Hitt was the man to beat. Hitt would lead all 12 laps for the win, his first victory at Davenport this year. Wade Dahl would get to Hitt’s bumper, but no further, finishing second. Steven Phillips was third, followed by Luke Thurness and Mike Morrow.

Next Friday, July 15th, is Kile Motorsports night at the Davenport Speedway.
