STUART, IA (July 10) – Drivers and fans alike gathered on a steamy Sunday afternoon at Stuart Speedway and the only thing hotter than the weather was the racing! Feature winners for the evening were Devan Stuve, Ty Luellen, Jeremy Gettler, Anthony Onstot, Shannon Anderson and Randy Havlik. IMCA Sport Compacts were the first class on the racetrack with Jordan Peters and Adam Kralik on the front row. Kralik led the first two laps when visiting driver John Whalen took over the top spot. Whalen looked to easily take the win when bedlam took over! As Whalen came down the front stretch to take the white flag, his right rear wheel came off and took out the traffic signal in turn one. As this happened, Devan Stuve took the lead right before the start/finish line. The cars continued around as the caution came out, and having took the white flag the race was yellow checkered with Stuve picking up the win. Kralik finished second and Peters, with a broken right rear wheel of his own, ended in third. David Sciranko and Whalen rounded out the top five and Kralik was the heat race winner. After a delay to fix the traffic signal, James Reichart and Austin Paul led the IMCA Northern Sportmods to the green flag. The two would go for a spin in turn two, bringing out the caution flag after lap one. This would be a common theme for the Sportmods with multiple cautions throughout the feature. Ty Luellen would lead through all four yellows and after the drivers being warned of being over the time limit for the race, they had one more chance to finish the race under green. As Luellen led the field through lap seven, the caution would fly yet again and the decision was made to yellow/checker the race. Luellen picked up his first win at Stuart only eight days after his first-ever win in the Sportmods in Boone. Jerry Hinton drove to second place with Dylan Book in third, Mike Pruitt fourth and Casey Gruebel fifth. Luellen and David Schlicht were the heat race winners. Next up were the IMCA Stock Cars with Michael Walrod and Scott Bailey on the front row. Walrod led the first two laps and Jeremy Gettler took over on lap three. After a quick caution on lap six, the cars restarted and Bailey caught the wall coming out of turn two, barrel rolling down the back stretch and coming to rest on his roof. Bailey was OK, but for precautionary measures was transported to the hospital for evaluation. After the restart, Gettler continued to lead and went on to the win over Steve Campbell, Bob Daniels, Kevin Godwin and Jeff Anderson. Campbell and Gettler were the heat race winners and Bryan Snell won the Trophy Dash. 6 Cylinder FWD’s came out next with Jordan Peters and Andy Forcht setting the pace. Anthony Onstot led the first lap with Jake Coughennower right behind. Lukas Onstot took over second place on lap four and set out to catch his brother, but it was not to be as A. Onstot took home the win. L. Onstot brought home second with Coughennower in third, Jim Britton fourth and Forcht fifth. A. Onstot and Coughennower were the heat race winners. Mike Hansen and Bill Atcheson brought out the IMCA Hobby Stocks for their feature with Atcheson leading until the caution flag flew on lap seven. Once the race restarted, Atcheson continued to lead until spinning to the infield coming out of turn four, handing the lead to Shannon Anderson on lap eight. Nathan Lange slipped past Nyle Godwin for second on lap nine and began to try to track down Anderson, but it was not to be as Anderson held strong to pick up the win, his fourth in a row at Stuart. Lange finished in second with Godwin, Aaron Rudolph and Adam Hagan rounding out the top five. Anderson and Atcheson were the heat race winners. IMCA Modifieds were last up with Ed Seibert and Tony Hilgenberg bringing the field to life. Josh Gilman darted to the top spot on lap one with Alison Quick close behind in second. Randy Havlik made fast work of Quick and set out for the top spot, tracking Gilman down and snatching the lead on lap six. After Rex Parkison slowed and brought out the yellow on lap eight, Havlik and Gilman took up the battle again with Havlik staying strong on the top side. Gilman drove as hard as he could, but Havlik wouldn’t be denied in picking up the feature win. Gilman finished in second with Quick in third, Hilgenberg fourth and Scott Bash fifth.
