Wilson and Merrick Get First Wins

MAQUOKETA, IA (July 16, 2011) - Three drivers made return trips to victory lane Saturday on Schurbon Engine and Machine Fan Appreciation Night at Jackson County Speedway, while two drivers got their first wins of the year.  Pole sitter, Gene Ehlers led the Ricky Rox Mobile DJ Service Hobby Stock feature flag to flag to make his second trip to victory lane this year.  A tenth lap caution shook the field up as Nate Yoerger took second with Justin Yarolem a close third.  Shawn Flagel was fourth with Josh Neal fifth.

The first new winner of the evening came in the Gade Racing Engines/Shirts’n’Stuff IMCA Modified division.  After winning his heat race, Keith Feller started on the pole of the feature and didn’t hesitate grabbing the lead.  At lap eleven Matt Wilson moved his Gade Racing Engine powered Ford out front and went on for his first win of the year.  On a last lap charge Doug Crampton moved in to take second as Feller held on for third.  After being involved in a mid race caution and being forced to go to the rear, Bob Dominacki came back to take fourth edging out twelfth place starter Joe Beal by inches.

Second Straight Pipes Plus Street Stock heat winner, Kerry Dake took the early lead of the feature with Dan Mohr taking over on lap three.  At lap seven Timmy Current went out front bringing Joe Bonney with him.  Current went on to take his sixth victory of the season with Bonney second.  On the white flag lap Tony VonDresky moved in to take third with Mohr holding on for fourth.  Chip Kohl rounded out the top five.

Front row starter, Brian Meiners took the lead of the B & D Pit Stop IMCA Late Model feature with Don Pataska right there by his side.  At lap fourteen Joe Zrostlik moved by Pataska bringing Ray Guss Jr with him.  A seventeenth lap restart had Guss take over the point with Zrostlik right with him.  Three laps later Zrostlik went up in a cloud of smoke.  Guss went on for his second win of the season with Meiners holding on for second.  Terry Neal was third with Stephan Kammerer fourth and Jeff Stevens fifth.

After some problems last week in post race inspection, Clarence Merrick showed he could also do it legally as he led the caution free, non-stop Hawkeye Auto 4 Stock feature from the drop of the green through to the checkers for his first win of the season.  Gene Potter chased him the entire twelve laps but had to settle for second.  Jake Ellithorpe was third with Jake Montoya fourth and Rob Harding Sr fifth.
