Huston tops Mod Lite feature field at CJ Speedway

COLUMBUS JUNCTION (July 30, 2011) - Hometown boy, Johnathan Huston, picked up his first mod lite feature win at CJ Speedway Friday night July 29. Blain Dopler, Wapello and Tom Goble, Burlington got their second wins and the unstoppable Steve Stewart, Burlington and Tyler Whalen, Riverside got wins number nine in the modified and IMCA Sport Compact feature races .

Coming Up Friday, August 5 is Caseys General Store night with more point race action for IMCA Stock Cars, Modifieds, Mod Lites, and IMCA Sport Compacts

Tyler Whalen is the man to beat at CJ Speedway this year. Whalen picked up another IMCA Sport Compact win at CJ Speedway Friday night, his nineth win of the year. Whalen took the lead on lap two of the ten lap main event and went on to pull away from the field taking the checkered flag by a large margin. The battle for second went to James Roose who passed Bill Whalen with four laps to go. Top three point leaders are Tyler Whalen 444, James Roose 421, Bill Whalen 416.

Johnthan Huston, Columbus Junction took the lead at the drop of the green flag and pulled away from the field to win his first Mod Lite feature at CJ Speedway this season. With Huston out in front, two time winner Troy Phillpott moved in to the second spot by lap six but would be unable to catch Huston. Top three point leaders are: Robert Guss, Moline 434, Troy Phillpott 402, Evan Epperson 348.

Nine modifieds took to the track for their twelve lap feature with Doug Pratt and Mike Schump on the front row. Schump took the early lead followed by Mark Winkel. It was three wide on lap four before Winkel would pull ahead on lap five. Eight time winner Steve Stewart would pull in to the pits with a flat tire during a caution and would return to the field. Winkel led the field for the next six circuits with Stewart having to work his way back through the field. With two laps to go, Stewart would pass Tim Sands for second and has his sights set on Winkel. On the final lap Stewart went to the outside of Winkel in turn four as the leaders headed for the checkered flag. Winkel, in one of his best performances of the season would get edged out at the finish line by Stewart who picked up his nineth win. Top three point leaders are: Tim Sands, 464, Steve Stewart 462, Mark Winkel 451/

Nineteen IMCA Stock Cars checked in Friday night with seventeen taking to the track for their feature race. Jim Redmann took the early lead in the fifteen lap race. It was a three and sometimes four way battle for the lead in some close bumper to bumper, side by side action early on. On lap four, Blaine Dopler went to the inside of Redmann in turn two for the lead. Dopler and Brian Holmes put on a show for the fans with bumper to bumper action as they pulled away from the field . A Caution on lap twelve closed the gap the leaders had developed. Dopler and Holmes continued to put on a close race racing bumper to bumper with two laps to go. As they rounded turn three on the final lap Holmes was on Doplers bumper but as they headed down the front stretch, headed for the checkered flag, Dopler would pull away for the win. Holmes finished second and Cole Simmons would finish third. Top three in points are: Tad Payne 394, Cole Simmons 391, Kirk Kinsley 337.

Tom Goble got his second CJ Speedway late model win developing a nearly four second lead over the field. Jay Chenoweth would hold down the second spot and Jeff Guengerich would pass Sam Halstead with two laps to go to finish third. Top three point leaders are: Jay Chenoweth 227, Andy Wink 211, Tom Goble 163.
