Four New Winners at Jackson County Speedway
by Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IA (August 6, 2011) - On Coca Cola/Casey’s General Stores night at Jackson County Speedway Saturday, four new faces made trips to victory lane and the Midwest Jalopies made a visit to the speedway.  After last weeks wet fair races the track and surrounding area were in great shape.  After winning his heat race, Paul Howard started on the pole of the Ricky Rox Mobile DJ  Service Hobby Stock feature and led all the way to be the first new winner of the night.  Some luck played in as on the white flag lap a car spun bringing out the caution flag, which made the race over.  As Howard went down the back stretch he coasted to a stop in a cloud of smoke, but as he was the leader on the white flag lap he was pushed into victory lane as the winner.  It appeared Joe Grant had taken second but he did not make it through post race inspection and was disqualified  This gave Justin Yarolem second.  Gene Ehlers was third with Nate Yoerger fourth and Matt Short fifth.

Another driver to start on the pole and lead flag to flag came in the Midwest Jalopy feature as Tim Bader too the lead on the drop of the green and never slowed down as he went on for the win.  A real battle was going on behind him between eighth and ninth place starters, Rodney Haack and Chris Gillmore for second place.  Haack took the spot with Gillmore third.  Bob Mingst was fourth with Larry Driskell fifth.

The Gade Racing Engines/Shirts’n’Stuff IMCA Modified feature had the third pole sitter of the night lead flag to flag to take the win.  Keith Feller charged out front and never looked back, he sailed on for victory.  He became the second new winner of the night.  Eleventh place starter, Thad Wilson worked his way through the pack and on the last lap moved in to take second.  Dan Klatt was third followed by Tom Pestka and Ray Cox Jr rounding out the top five.

Robert Sherbonda led the first lap of the Straight Pipes Plus Street Stock feature with Brendan Driscoll taking over on lap two.  Two laps later the caution flew as second and third place runners, Timmy Current and Donnie Louck got together and ended up with Louck’s right front wheel in Currents drivers door window.  On the restart Driscoll was back out front and the race went on caution free.  On lap twelve, on his first visit to the track this year, seventh place starter, Jeremy Marquette moved out front and went on to be the nights third new winner.  Driscoll held on for second with Emily Gade third.  Louck came back through the field to take fourth with Randy Exline fifth.

Pole sitter, Don Pataska took the early lead of the B & D Pit Stop IMCA Late Model feature with third place starter, Brian Meiners taking over on lap eight.  Meiners went on to become the fourth new face in victory lane for the night.  After the race was over Meiners said it had been about a ten year drought.  Bart Miller was a strong second with ninth place starter, Terry Neal third and tenth place starter, Ray Guss Jr fourth.  Mitch Current took fifth.

Mike Barten took the early lead of the Hawkeye Auto 4 Stock feature and held on through lap five when the caution flew for a car stopped in turn three.  As the caution waved and everyone was slowing down Jason Blocker rolled his car on the other end of the speedway.  On the restart it was Barten still ouot front, but two laps later Clarence Merrick went by.  Merrick went on to take his second win of the season with Barten holding off a charging Jake Montoya to take second.  Andy Wagener was fourth with thirteenth place starter, Ross Neal fifth.
