Bauer and Barten Get First Jackson County Wins
by: Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IA (August 13, 2011) - Race fans and drivers alike should give a loud thank you to promoter Bob Wagener as he got the race track ready at Jackson County Speedway after a four inch downpour earlier in the week.  Not only was that a problem but another shower came through at about 4:30 Saturday afternoon.  Things got off to a little late start, but I Wireless Kids Night even got bike races in during intermission.  Gene Ehlers started on the front row of the Ricky Rox Mobile DJ Service Hobby Stock feature and led flag to flag for his third victory this season.  With three laps to go Justin Yarolem moved in for second with Bruce Yoerger third.  Twelfth place starter, Joe Grant battled his way up to take fourth with Matt Short fifth.

Front row starter, Keith Feller charged out front of the Gade Racing Engines/Shirts’n’Stuff IMCA Modified feture, but left the race track with mechanical woes on the eighth lap.  On a ninth lap restart it was Cory Bauer out front and in control.  Bauer went on for his first win of the season holding off the challenges of second place finisher, Doug Crampton.  Eleventh place starter, Ray Cox Jr took third with Joe Beal fourth and Matt Irwin fifth.

Kevin Brame grabbed the early lead of the Straight Pipes Plus Street Stock feature and by lap six eleventh place starter, Timmy Current was there putting the pressure on.  On lap eleven Current moved out front and on for his seventh trip to victory lane this year.  On a thirteenth lap restart Chip Kohl moved in to take second with Joe Bonney third.  After being involved in two earlier cautions, Corey Rupp came on to take fourth with Brame holding on for fifth.

The B & D Pit Stop IMCA Late Model feature had a rough time getting started as the caution flew six times in the first six lap, including a thirteen car pile-up on the front chute.  Only two cars were forced to leave the track at this point.  On the drop of the green Cory Goldbeck charged out front with Terry Neal taking over on lap five.  Unfortunately for Goldbeck he was one of the cars forced to leave after the thirteen car pile-up.  Neal went on for his fourth win of the season with Ray Guss Jr second.  Gary Webb was third with Joe Zrostlik fourth.  Last place starter on the nineteen car field, Ryan Duhme took fifth.

Nineteen of the twenty-one Hawkeye Auto 4 Stock cars on hand made the feature call with Robbie Harding Jr taking the early lead.  On lap four Jake Ellithorpe moved out front but later coasted to a halt off the front chute.  Lap eight had Jake Montoya out front, but one lap later it was Mike Barten leading the way.  Barten went on for his first win of the year with Montoya holding on for second.  Thirteenth place starter, Chris Holmlund took third with Lukas Short fourth and Luke Benischek fifth on his first visit to the speedway.  Next week besides the complete regular program Powder Puff races will be held.
