Hoenigs to leave LCS at end of 2011 After 14 years couple moving on, lease, corporation for sale
By Dewain Hulett

DONNELLSON, IA (August 19, 2011) – After 14 years at the helm of Lee County Speedway, the longest tenured promoting duo in Southeast Iowa announced Friday night that they will officially be ending their run as promoters at Lee County Speedway at the end of the 2011 season.

Terry and Jenni Hoenig purchased the operating rights and corporation in 1998, and have operated it weekly since then. They made the move from Saturday night racing to Friday night racing in 2001. With all the changes and things that have happened at the racetrack one thing will be the toughest to leave behind, according to Terry.

“The hardest thing to leave behind and what we will miss the most is the people,” Terry said. “That includes the racers, the employees and the fans. We will still see them but not on a weekly basis.

“That fact that it is like a family makes that one of the toughest parts of the decision,” he added.

Terry and Jenni have two daughters, Olivia, 13, and Chloe, 9, and the chance to have more time at home with the family thanks to a very good job offer made the decision easier for Terry.

“I felt like it was time to spend more time with the family,” Hoenig said. “It is going to allow me and my wife the opportunity to pursue some long term goals that we have wanted to for quite some time and we have been putting off.”

The move puts one of the most successful racetracks in the area, and perhaps the state, on the market for a new owner/operator.

“I think it is an economic time where only the strong will survive,” Hoenig said. “Our track offers a very solid weekly racing program and a solid fan base with great sponsorship support.

“Our goal is to help the next owners to continue that,” he added.
