by: Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IA (Sept. 10, 2011) - Saturday was the running of the Dusty Kay Memorial race at Jackson County Speedway and thirty-three 4 Stock cars signed in to compete for the thousand dollar first place money with twenty cars making the feature.  Justin Kay led the first lap with fourth place starter, Mitch Bielenberg taking over on lap two.  Pole sitter, Bryan Klein came back to take over the point on lap six and never looked back as he went on to lead the other fourty-four laps and take home the big money.  Twelfth place starter, Brad Chandler took second over twentieth place starter, Mike Barten’s third.  Scott Booth was fourth with Ricky Kay taking fifth.

The Street Stock division also ran a fifty lap feature for a thousand dollars to win.  On the drop of the green front row starter, Dan Mohr went out front and by lap seven sixth place starter, Wayne Hora was running second.  On lap fifteen ninth place starter, Emily Gade moved into second and the race was on.  Mohr and Gade battled side by side lap after lap.  With ten laps to go Chip Kohl moved into third and it became a three car battle for the victory.  The last five laps a blanket could have been thrown over the top three.  Gade edged out front by inches to lead lap forty-six with Mohr coming back on lap forty-seven.  Lap forty-eight saw Gade againby inches and Kohl led the white flag lap, but Mohr came back to take the checkers.  Kohl was second with Hora coming back to take third.  Gade took fourth as she coasted across the line with mechanical problems on the last lap.  Josh Starr rounded out the top five.

The IMCA Modified feature also paid a thousand dollars to win and Jarrett Franzen started on the pole and led the first lap.  Fourth place starter, TimArp led lap two, but it didn’t last long as on lap three it was seventh place starter, Bob Dominacki taking over bringing Ray Cox Jr with him.  Cox Got up beside Dominacki a couple times, but nothing was stopping the Dominator as he went on for the win.  Cox took second with thirteenth place starter, Mike Burbridge taking third.  Arp held on for fourth with sixteenth place starter, Matt Wilson fifth.

Matt Short took the early lead of the Hobby Stock feature with Mike McGarry taking over on lap three.  A sixth lap restart had Short going back out front and a lap later McGarry was retired with motor woes.  Short led the rest of the way to take the win.  Shawn Flagel was second with last place starter, Matt McGranahan third.  Kile Vohringer was fourth over Randy Butterbroet’s fifth.  This coming Saturday will be the Night of Destruction and Cheaters races at Jackson County Speedway.
