Feature win at Farley puts Elliott on top of JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour standings

FARLEY, Iowa (Sept. 17) – Mark Elliott took the lead on lap 14 and fendered the rest of the IMCA Modified field for the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature win at Farley Speedway.

Saturday’s victory, during the Yankee Dirt Track Classic special, paid $1,000 and put Elliott on top of the series point standings. He also became the first repeat winner through nine HDT events this season.

Mark Schulte, Josh Foster, Jerry Luloff and Chris Horn rounded out the top five.

Schulte had won the pole dash but Foster was first to the front when the initial green flag waved. Richie Gustin and Elliott battled with Foster for the early race lead. Elliott worked under Foster coming off turn four; Gustin and Foster were door-to-door for second before Gustin got caught up with another car during a lap 19 restart.

Elliott cruised to the win from that point. He’ll look to lock up the title when the series concludes during the Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23-24 Havoc On The High Banks special at Marshalltown Speedway.

Both Modified features at Marshalltown pay $1,000 to win and are also qualifying events for the 2012 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.
