Racing action at RPM Speedway

HAYS, KS (June 2) - Racing action returned to RPM Speedway in Hays, KS, Saturday evening, June 2, with the regular four divisions in action.

Salina’s Corey Lagroon won an exciting IMCA Modified feature. Barry Maupin led the opening lap of the 20-circuit event until he was passed by John Fabrizius on lap 6. While under caution on lap 10, Fabrizius developed a flat tire and had to pit, giving Lagroon a lead he would not relinquish. Lagroon pulled away from the field the second half of the race, while Jeremy Zorn won the battle for second over Maupin and Jason Schoenberger. Fabrizius worked his way back up to finish fifth. Ronnie Hill and Dustin Daniels won the two heat races.

The 20-lap IMCA Stock Car feature saw Selden’s Jason Rogers hold off Travis Sherfick for the win in an exciting finish. Terry Cunningham took the point at the drop of the green, then Sherfick took over the top spot on lap 5 with Cunningham and Rogers right behind. The top 3 ran side-by-side and nose-to-tail through lap 13 when the caution waved for a two car tangle. After racing resumed, Rogers made his move as he got under Sherfick in turn 2 on lap 17. Sherfick tried to get back under Rogers the final couple of laps but had to settle for second. Heat two winner Cunningham finished third, followed by Jason Davis and Marty Barth. Sherfick was victorious in the other heat race.

Adam Balthazor of Stockton led from green to checkered in the 15-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Balthazor pulled away for an easy win, however the battle for the runner-up spot saw Brian Conness edge out heat two victor Dustin McClurg, Gene Sneath and Jerry Hudson for second. Balthazor also won a heat race.

After winning the IMCA Sport Compact heat race, Dave Junemann of Hays led the field all 8 laps to win the feature race. Justin Stanford was second and Nicole Wood third.

Racing action returns to RPM Speedway Saturday evening, June 23. The four regular IMCA sanctioned classes will all be in action starting at 7:00 p.m. Monster Truck rides will also be available.
