Boen Ties NCRA Career Mark with Victory in Dodge City
By Randy Fisher

DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 28, 2007) – It was quite a weekend for Kelly Boen. With two consecutive wins, the Henderson, Colo., driver has tied for the most career victories in the O’Reilly NCRA Late Model Series, presented by ICM/Ethanol.

The record-tying win came Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park. After a pair of quick yellows on the first lap, Al Purkey took the early lead. Boen tracked him down and passed for the point on the 10th circuit.

Five laps later Purkey was able to get back around for the lead but a caution nullified the pass. That moved Purkey back to second on the restart with Boen still in front.

Boen stayed in front the rest of the way but not without a challenge. John Anderson used a late caution to take second from Purkey and set his sights on the lead. He caught Boen with three laps to go but could not make a pass stick.

Anderson held on to the runner-up spot, his ninth top four finish in 10 features this year. Kyle Berck made a late-race pass to finish in third, just ahead of Purkey, as Gary Gorby took fifth.

It was Boen’s fourth win of the season, just one night after he took over the point lead from Anderson with a win.

Boen and Purkey both have 25 career NCRA wins. Purkey entered the season tied with the late Larry Phillips at 24 victories. Purkey won May 27 at Nebraska Raceway Park to take the top spot.
