Karrick Wins Duel With Davis, Baker Gets Race Shortened Victory & Schmidt Finally Recieves 1st Factory Stock Win
KANSAS CITY, KS. (Aug 10, 2007) – The weather was hot on Friday night at
Lakeside Speedway. Really, hot! It made most wonder, if going to the race track
was truly worth it? The racers of Lakeside Speedway answered that question, yes.
Tim Karrick has been a previous champion at Lakeside Speedway and he knows how
to win championships. The goal is to take advantage of situations that will put
you in the points lead or get you closer to the points lead. Friday night,
happened to be one of those nights for Karrick and he responded with a tough
win.
"The guys I had to pass to get to the front, Crystal, Bubba, Johnny, Kerry...
they didn't give me any room," said Tim Karrick, "I had to work for it
tonight. The car was good right from the get go."
The night started out tough for Karrick as he appeared to blow a motor at the
end of the heat race. In the downtime, the crew went to work to repair the
problem. Crew chief, Jamie Hager, said that they changed everything on the car
except for the motor. It worked well.
At the drop of the green flag, Bubba Harvey, raced out to the early lead. It
would not last, as Kerry Davis, driving a Hughes Chassis for the first time at
Lakeside, would drive by Harvey on lap 8.
"This race raises our spirits," said Davis, "we were at the right place and the
right time and we are tickled to death!"
Davis would lead a majority of the race, until lap 21 when Karrick went around
Davis and motored on to the win. Davis would settle for the runner-up position.
Rounding out the top 5 in 3rd place was Bubba Harvey, Tom Charles took home the
4th spot, while his son, Danny Charles, finished in the 5th spot.
Karrick was able to gain on the point leader John Allen on Friday night. Allen
suffered a fire in the feature that made him drop from the competition.
It never ceases to amaze anyone in the crowd. The Grand National class is
shaping up to have a great points battle as the season winds down.
Unfortunately, the drivers in this class are struggling to get with the program.
Twenty-five competitors started the race and one by one drivers began falling
out of the field for various reasons. Yellow flags, crashes and mechanical
problems kept some drivers from finishing the race. At the end, only 9 racers
were left on the track.
Due to the lack of time and carnage, track officials cut the race short to 15
laps.
In the end it was Jim Baker holding on to the win.
Dave Powell raced his way to a 2nd place finish, Darren Kling exited the track
in 3rd spot, 4th, was the current points leader, Cody Owens and finishing in the
5th spot was Jeff Smith.
What more could a young kid ask for? Not much. Not when you have two race cars
and a family that supports your racing habit! You have hit the mother load.
Tyler Schmidt has been on the receiving end of some hard losses this season.
Twice, Schmidt missed getting his first win by mere inches. Friday night,
Schmidt put together the exact recipe for success in the Factory Stock class.
Several cars were going door-to-door and head to head during last night's
feature event. Keith Jennings moved out to the lead early in his Mopar. His time
was numbered at the front of the field, as Schmidt was making his way in and out
of traffic.
A couple of early yellows in the race caused some drivers to drop out of the
competition. Points leader, Tim Shields, went out during the 2nd yellow flag and
didn't return for the rest of the race.
Tyler Schmidt raced to the inside of Keith Jennings and passed him for the lead
on lap 10. As 5 laps remained, Schmidt put his priorities in line and it paid
off. Schmidt won easily down the stretch.
Keith Jennings, put one of his better runs together, finished 2nd, 3rd went to
Brian Mills, Joe Smith Jr. raced to a 4th place spot and finishing 5th on the
field was Jay Kelly.
