Zorn, Schoenberger, Dauer cash in at Hays

HAYS, KS (Sept 22) - RPM Speedway in Hays, KS, wrapped up the 2007 racing season Saturday night, September 22, during the final night of the Fall Nationals.

Russell’s Jeremy Zorn garnered the biggest payday of his racing career by winning the IMCA Modified A-feature and the $5,000 winner’s check. Zorn took the lead from Jeremy Frenier on lap 11 of the 25-lap main event. The top five that included Zorn, Eddie Martin, Frenier, Jordan Grabouski and Dave Hardesty pulled away from the field. The race ended under caution however when there was a multi-car tangle on the final lap. Zorn found himself in the winner’s circle with Martin, Frenier, Grabouski and Hardesty rounding out the top five. Heat race winners were Justin Yeager, Grabouski, Randy Wilson, Nick Tubbs, Zorn, Corey Lagroon, Frenier and Martin. B-feature winners included Hardesty, Brady Coen, Matt Rucker and John Fabrizius.

Jason Schoenberger of Russell did double duty competing in both the IMCA Modified and IMCA Stock Car divisions, and it paid off with a win in the stock car A-main. Friday night’s feature winner Bryan Lariviere led the opening lap of the 20-lap race before Schoenberger took a lead he would not relinquish. Lariviere finished in the runner-up spot, followed by Tyler Hahn, Terry Cunningham and Tracy Holloway. Following the race, Cunningham had his motor claimed by Brent Drohman but refused the claim and was disqualified. Heat race winners were Holloway, Lariviere, Jeremy Blackwill and Terry Franz. Cory Struckhoff won the B-feature.

B.J. Dauer of Marquette snapped Adam Balthazor’s winning streak in the IMCA Hobby Stock main event. Duane Wahrman led the first 3 laps of the 20-lap feature before Balthazor took the top spot. But on lap 8, Dauer worked his way to the front and held on the remaining distance to the checkers. Balthazor finished second, trailed by Brian Weinhold, Wahrman, and Josh Latka. Dauer, Jerry Hudson and Balthazor were victorious in their heat races, while Kent Tammen took top honors in the B-main.

Kevin Hackett of Minneapolis led all 15 laps to pick up the win in the IMCA Sport Compact main event. Alex Loveless started scratch in the 13 car field and worked his way up to finish second, followed by Donnie Cleveland, Dave Junemann and Blake Michaels. Al Rice won the heat race.
