McCook Speedway Next Stop on URSS Series Calendar
by: Terry J Pfeifer

OBERLIN, KS (Sept. 24) - With the 2007 United Rebel Sprint Series Season drawing to a close, the Rebels will make their debut at the McCook Speedway. The URSS Rebels will hit the 3/8’s mile high bank track with several positions in the Season Points up for grabs.

Current URSS Points leader Smokey Fairbank has a comfortable lead for the Series Championship, but the battle for positions 2nd to 4th is intense as the trio of Randy Bantam, Justin Schwien and 2006 Series Champion Jon Johnson are separated by only 75 points. The battle for the 5th to 7th is even closer as Cody Salem, Ken Lutters and Bill Hays are within 72 points of each other. Tim Perkins holds a scant 25-point lead over Cody Keiswetter as they battle for the tenth position. With only two URSS Winged Point races remaining on the schedule, the point races are going to go down to the wire. This week’s action will be fast and furious to see which drivers can make up the most ground before the Season Finale in October.

Joining the URSS 305 Sprint Cars will be the Hobby Stocks with a $600 to win first prize, the Classic Modifieds and the Colorado Mod Lites. Gates open at 1:00 PM with the racing action starting at 3:00 PM. McCook Speedway and the Red Willow County Fairgrounds are towards the northwest side of McCook at the corner of Q and West 5th Streets, north of U. S. Highways 6 and 34 on West 5th St., and east of U. S. Highway 83 on Q St.
