Ten race dates announced for WaKeeney Speedway

WaKEENEY, Kan. (March 11) – Ten race dates for four IMCA divisions are on the 2010 schedule at WaKeeney Speedway.

The 11-member WaKeeney Racing Association will oversee the 3/8-mile dirt speedplant. Don Bolt and Mike McCurdy have been hired as co-promoters.

“Mike has been on the staff here and already knows most of the drivers and crew members,” said Bolt, previously the promoter at Elmwood Park Speedway, Oberlin Speedway and The Speedbowl. “We’re looking forward to getting the season started and it’s encouraging that a lot of people in and around the community share that enthusiasm,”

Opening night is scheduled for April 18, with Sunday point races for IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods to follow on April 25, May 16, June 13 and 27, and Sept. 19.

Sanctioned classes also see action in a pair of point races during the Memorial Day Weekend May 30 and 31, on Friday, July 16 and on Monday, Aug. 2 during the county fair.

Northern SportMods will run a full season this year; they’d alternated nights in 2009.

Modified points earned at WaKeeney count toward ButlerBuilt Central Region standings. Stock Car and Hobby Stock points figure toward Probe Industries Northern Region standings for those classes.

“The improvements we’ve already completed or plan to have done by opening night will be much appreciated by drivers and fans alike,” Bolt said. “Everything from the reworked racing surface to catch fence repairs and new plumbing has or will be done by opening night.”

Bolt and his wife Paula will also promote the July 25 and 26 county fair races at Osborne Speedway. National, regional and state points will be given in the Modified, Stock and Hobby divisions, while Northern SportMod drivers race for national and state points.
