Hutchinson Raceway Park sets 10 dates for three IMCA divisions

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (January 27, 2011) - Ten race nights for three IMCA divisions are in the works this season at Hutchinson Raceway Park.

IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks return to the central Kansas speed plant for the first time since 2004. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will be new to the 3/8-mile dirt oval.

“There were some growing pains that have been worked out since we stopped sanctioning. I had thought about going IMCA again for a couple years,” promoter Paul Dutton said. “The Modified guys came to me at the end of the year last season and asked about the sanction and I like to think I’m the type of promoter who will listen to drivers.”

“We’ve got a base of 15-18 Modifieds now. I think those cars will be a strong place to build from, especially because we’re a Friday night track,” he added. “If drivers from other tracks, like Minneapolis Raceway, want to chase IMCA points, they’ll have the opportunity to come here and do that.”

Tentative opening night is June 3, with regular point races slated through Aug. 26. The IMCA classes do not run on any of the same three nights the United Rebel Sprint Car Series comes to town.

Hutchinson is part of IMCA’s ButlerBuilt Central Region for Modifieds and Probe Industries Northern Region for Hobby Stocks.

IMCA Modifieds have been a racing fixture in Kansas since the 1980s, IMCA Hobby Stocks since the 1990s. The Northern SportMod class was introduced in 2005 and first sanctioned in Kansas four years later.

“I think SportMods are a class that is going to continue growing by leaps and bounds,” Dutton said. “I think IMCA is a great organization in that a driver can race two or three nights a week if they want to and not have to change anything on their car because the rules are the same at every sanctioned track.”
