New Race Night Produces 4 New Winners At Lakeside Speedway
By Larry Lowrey Jr.

KANSAS CITY, KS (April 29, 2011) - After an unsuccessful try to get in their 2nd race of the season, Lakeside Speedway had a couple of days of good weather and it allowed them to get in their 2nd race of the season.

It could be said that Lakeside Speedway might pack some parody into this new racing season. Four new drivers found their way into victory lane on Friday night. A total of 8, different, drivers have won each of the 8 features.

In the Modified division it was Mark Schafman driving to the win tonight. It was a win that was hard to come by according to the driver from Edwardsville, Mo.

"The track was pretty slick and the groove was on the bottom," said Schafman, "I was just trying to keep a smooth and steady pace and not come up off the bottom."

The night got started well for Schafman as he placed 2nd in his heat race. This would qualify him to start the Modified Feature on the pole position. As he scouted out the race surface he knew what he had to do.

"I watched a little bit of the feature before and it looked like everybody that was on the bottom (of the track) was holding their own," said Schafman, "I knew that I was starting on the inside and if I could get their first someone would have to pass me to take it away."

At the drop of the green flag, Schafman headed out in the lead and took to the bottom of the track. Just like he discovered before the race, the bottom was where he wanted to be. All 25 laps of the feature saw Schafman work the very bottom of each turn at Lakeside.

"On a weekly basis there is 10 to 15 cars that can come out and win and I was expecting a challenge, but it all worked out in the end," said Schafman.

John O'Neal Jr. & Kerry Davis battled to a tight finish at the end of the night for the runner-up spot. O'Neal would get the better end of the battle as he was declared the 2nd place car. Fourth went to Tim Karrick, the winner from opening night, and in 5th was Aaron Marrant. Marrant started 21st in the feature but found himself in 5th by the end of the night.

Over the years, the Factory Stock division has been one to provide the crowd with several exciting moments. Friday night it was an exciting moment for Scotty Moore. Moore would pick up the race win, but wasn't really sure how it all happened.

"I don't know what happened, to be honest with you it's all a blur," said Moore.

What wasn't a blur was the way that Moore drove to the front past the early leaders Caleb Mcclellan and Brett Heeter. It was a long way to go to get his camaro to the front. Moore started in the 11th position on the starting grid. Once he pushed his way to the front, Moore would extend his lead and go on to the win.

"The Bass Pro, Tuff Shed camaro we gave it to them tonight," said an excited Scotty Moore.
Heeter would settle for 2nd, 3rd went to Mcclellan, Darrin Christy drove to a 4th place finish and rounding out the top 5 was Justin Seifert.

Gene Claxton has driven in just about every class that Lakeside Speedway has offered and he has dang near won in each of those classes. Two weeks ago it was the first running of the Convertible Sport Mods at Lakeside Speedway. Claxton, after tonight, can say that he has not only raced in this class but won.

When the green flag dropped it was Claxton going to the front from his outside front row starting spot. His years of experience helped him tremendously tonight as it took a special finesse to race to the win. Claxton made it look easy as he sliced and diced his way to win number 1, for him, in the Convertible Sport Mods.

Last season was a tough year for Mike Taylor Jr. He was injured and missed a majority of the racing season. Taylor got his fix by letting someone else drive his Grand National. It was a step that helped heal this stern competitor, but it didn't do anything like the victory he drove to tonight.

Taylor drove a nearly flawless race. Like the other classes, Taylor knew that he had to get out in front first and then drop and stay on the bottom. He achieved this goal and it helped him take home his 1st win of the 2011 season. Late in the race, yellow flags bunched the field up for restarts, but it was always Taylor leaving the field by the time they would hit turn number 2.
Jeff Miles came in the 2nd spot, the winner from week number 1, Tim Shields, finished 3rd, 4th went to Gene Claxton and rounding out the top 5 was Gary Donaldson.

Lakeside Speedway will return to action next Friday night, May 6, for the Joslin's Jewlrey Pre-Mothers Day Night at the races. Spectator gates will open at 5 p.m., hot laps will be at 7 p.m. and the first race goes green at 7:30 p.m.
