Jackson Skips to Fair Win; Anderson is Johnny on the Spot
By Bob Wilson

KNOXVILLE, IA (July 15, 2006) - Skip Jackson and Johnny Anderson each took feature event wins during the annual Marion County Fair at Knoxville Raceway Saturday night. In addition to their earnings, each driver earned a half a beef and a half a hog courtesy of the Marion County Fairboard.

Jackson garnered his 24th career feature event win in a 20-lap race that nearly went the distance without stoppage. He was paid $3,000 for his efforts.

Starting on the pole of the 24-car field, Jackson took the immediate lead with a great start. Billy Alley pulled in behind him with Larry Pinegar II in third. By lap five those top three had separated from the pack.

With track conditions being much drier than normal, the turns had taken rubber by the 360 division feature. This being the case, most drivers ran the bottom of the big half mile where their cars stuck like glue.

By lap nine Jackson had moved into lap traffic. One more lap saw him place one of those cars between himself and Alley. With this slight buffer, Alley was not able to make any challenges on Jackson.

As the race edged past the fifteenth lap, the yellow was displayed when Bronson Maeschen exploded a left-rear tire and backed into the turn four fence. He did not restart.

With five laps to go, Jackson again led the field of sprinters to the green. Alley continued his chase but with the track making passing difficult he was unable to make a bid for the lead. Just as Jackson took the checkered flag in his J & S Autosports J & J, fifth place runner Brian Brown lost a right-rear tire in turn four. The crippled Brown made an agonizing effort to bring his sprinter to the finish line but he had lost twelve positions. He had also lost the lead in the season-long points chase as second place Alley took that spot by 20 markers.

Pinegar held for third and Clint Garner came across the stripe in fourth. Calvin Landis finished fifth. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Jesse Giannetto, Dusty Zomer, Trevor Green, Tim St. Arnold and Ryan Anderson.

The feature event for the 360 division saw front row starter Johnny Anderson take his fifth career win at this central Iowa track. Anderson, who led all but lap four of the fifteen-lap feature utilized the bottom of the big half-mile oval to keep Josh Higday at bay.

Throughout the race Higday would try the cushion, which had finally settled near the big Knoxville fences, but in the end he began to chase Anderson on the bottom where the rubber had been laid down.

It was basically a race between Anderson and Higday as the runner-up had all the moves but never enough to get around the leader. At the end of ten laps Higday trailed by only one car length. A couple laps later Anderson had stretched the margin to a wide gap as Higday became hindered by lap traffic.

At the end of the 15-lap race, Anderson could claim a win over his rival by ten car lengths. Joe Beaver, a fifth row starter drove a steady race and finished third, defending track champion Jake Peters was fourth and Jeff Mitrisin took fifth. Dustin Linquist, David Hall, Bret Mather, Stacy Alexander and B Main winner John Kearney rounded out the top ten finishers.
