Sioux Falls Drivers earn Victories on Knoxville Soil

KNOXVILLE, IA (Aug 26, 2006) - Clint Garner and Jake Peters each grabbed feature event wins in their respective divisions at Knoxville Raceway Saturday night.

For Garner, it was his initial win in the 410 division after graduating through the 360s and picking up one win there. He was paid $3,000 for his efforts.

Garner started on the pole of the twenty lap race and beat fellow front row starter Billy Alley through the first and second turns by running the bottom. Alley kept pace with the Sioux Falls pilot but could not make a dent in Garner's lead. By lap three, Brian Brown was running third and it looked to be one of these three drivers who would make it into victory lane.

By lap five, Alley was still nipping at Garner's heals and was only five car lengths behind. Brown was in the chase but something had to happen before he would be able to track down the front running duo.

Lap eight saw Garner edge into lap traffic and most would have guessed that Alley and Brown would make their moves to the front at this point. One lap later the red was thrown for Trevor Green who had tipped his racer in turn four.

The restart saw Alley again follow Garner around the big half mile. Alley began trying different lines and Garner sensing when he needing to block. At lap 15 Alley darted to the bottom of turns one and two and actually pulled along side Garner. With the momentum on his side, Garner pulled away on the high side and ran to the bottom in turns three and four to block the pesky Alley.

A yellow slowed the field on lap 16 when Kaley Gharst stopped above the cushion in turn four. It was a significant caution as Garner had again just entered lap traffic.

When the race went green again, Garner got a great jump on Alley and began to pull away with just four laps remaining. Alley, in the mean time, had his hands full with Brown who needed a second place finish to reclaim the season point's lead.

In the end, the race finished with the checkered and red flags showing for a looped Brent Antill in turn two. Garner took the top spot, Alley was second and Brown came across the line for third. Randy Anderson and Lynton Jeffrey completed the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Ricky Logan, Mark Dobmeier, Jesse Hockett from dead last, Dusty Zomer and Tim St. Arnold.

The 360 division saw South Dakota driver Jake Peters lead the distance to take his 8th career win at this central Iowa fairgrounds. After all was said and done, Peters was never challenged in this race that saw only green.

Starting on the front row, Peters took an immediate lead and by lap five he had acquired a full straightaway margin over second running Johnny Anderson. One lap later Jeff Mitrisin moved into third sending pole sitter Brett Mather to fourth.

Peters moved into lap traffic on the eighth go around but he was not impeded by the backmarkers. At lap ten he entered into heavy lap traffic but Anderson was unable to reel him in as he too had come upon slower cars.

This was to be Peters night as the Sioux Falls driver simply made no mistakes in the fifteen lap chase and came across the stripe to take the checkered flags as Anderson flew out of turn four. Trailing in third was Jeff Mitrisin with Dustin Lindquist fourth and Mather maintaining fifth. Josh Higday, Chuck Swenson, John Kearney from fifteenth, Josh Schneiderman and Eric Mason rounded out the top ten finishers.

Thirty-three 360s and twenty-nine 410s competed in the weekly program with next weekend marking the season finale for the track championships. One additional 410 event remains after that with the World of Outlaws making an appearance on October 7.
