by: Thomas J Schmeh

KNOXVILLE, IA (Nov. 27, 2006) - The Knoxville Raceway is pleased to finalize and announce the qualifying dates and venues for it’s fourteenth annual Knoxville World Challenge invitational sprint car race, August 10, 2007, during the SuperClean Knoxville Nationals. The first qualifier was held on September 16 at the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals at the Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada. The remaining four dates are as follows:

December 16, 2006 - Powerbuilt Sprint Car Classic
Powerbuilt Speedway; Ruapuna, South Island, New Zealand

January 26-27, 2007 - Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic
Sungold Stadium at Premier Speedway; Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia

February 24, 2007 - New Zealand Sprint Car Grand Prix
Baypark Stadium at Todd & Pollock Speedway; Mt. Maunganui, North Island, New Zealand

June 9, 2007 - Alberta Sprint Tour Classic
Castrol Raceway; Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

According to Knoxville director of racing Ralph Capitani, “Once again, drivers who compete in one of these qualifiers and are invited to race in the fourteenth annual World Challenge at Knoxville will be inversion-eligible. However, any international drivers that enter and compete at the SuperClean Knoxville Nationals will be invited to race in the $10,000-to-win event, they just won’t start up front if they haven’t competed in one of these five qualifiers. Americans can qualify for the Knoxville World Challenge by competing in one of the three overseas qualifiers in Australia or New Zealand.”

All five dirt tracks have hosted qualifiers in the past for the Knoxville World Challenge, which has been previously sponsored by Kele, Clean-O and Factory Value Parts, respectively. Exclusive title sponsorship for the world-class event is still available and interested parties are urged to contact Knoxville director of marketing Brian Stickel at 641-842-2690. Past Knoxville World Challenge champions have included Australians Brooke Tatnell, Skip Jackson and Max Dumesny, and Americans Daryn Pittman, Travis Rilat, Donny Schatz, Danny Lasoski, Randy Hannagan, and Danny Smith. To date, no Canadian nor New Zealander has won the coveted international dirt-track sprint car racing title.
