DEFENDING CHAMP A.J. WEAVER & HALL OF FAMER KENNY JACOBS
JOIN KNOXVILLE MASTERS CLASSIC ENTRY LIST

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (May 19) - The 2008 version of the Knoxville Masters Classic winged 360-cubic-inch sprint car race for drivers age 50 and over was strengthened this past week by the filing of official entries by defending champion A.J. Weaver of Texas and last year’s ‘Rookie of the Race’ Kenny Jacobs of Ohio. Jacobs was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2007 on the same day that he finished second to Weaver in the 22-lap Masters Classic. Last year’s ‘top eleven’ are now officially entered in this year’s $3,000-to-win event: A.J. Weaver, Kenny Jacobs, Mike Peters, Tim Gee, Greg Rilat, Ron Rosenboom, Bobby Becker, Jr., Terry Alexander, Lonnie Jensen, Shane Carson and “Midge” Miller, respectively.

According to Knoxville’s director of racing Ralph Capitani, “I fully expect to see at least thirty drivers gunning for the twenty-four starting spots in the Masters Classic feature. With the strength of this year’s field, it will be interesting to see if the late Cliff ‘Woody’ Woodward’s one-lap Masters record of 16.191 seconds can be beat, or Rick Ferkel’s 22-lap Masters record of 7:54.8 minutes. And I know drivers like Johnny Parsons, Jr., Ricky Weld and Shane Carson are entered and still looking for rides for the Classic, while others like Roland Johnson and Dan Oswalt haven’t even entered yet.”

The twenty-eight (28) official entrants with cars are: Tony Moro (Des Moines, IA), Mike Houseman (Norwalk, IA), Tim Gee (LeDuc, AB, CAN), Rev. Mark Amenda (Streator, IL), Brian Wedlake (Skiatook, OK), Bob Foster (Skiatook, OK), Carl "Midge" Miller (Willingboro, NJ), Bobby Becker, Jr. (Denton, NE), “Butch” Hanssen (Sioux Falls, SD), Dale McCarty (Eldorado Springs, MO), Jerry Potter (Pleasant Hill, MO), Joe McCarthy (Broomfield, CO), Randy Droescher (Larchwood, IA), Ron Rosenboom (Sturgis, SD), Bill Smith (Worthington, MN), Greg Rilat (Texas City, TX), Bob Thompson (Des Moines, IA), David Brown (Marshall, MO), Mike Peters (Wichita, KS), A.J. Weaver (Houston, TX), Don Stoutner (Brighton, CO), Earnest Jennings (Norman, OK), Lonnie Jensen (Lincoln, NE), Kramer Williamson (Palmyra, PA), Arnie Vink (Luverne, MN), Terry Alexander (Knoxville, IA), Kenny Jacobs (Holmesville, OH), Judi Bates (Barto, PA). Those three (3) drivers entered without cars are: Johnny Parsons, Jr. (Indianapolis, IN), Ricky Weld (Kansas City, MO), and Shane Carson (Yukon, OK).

Knoxville Raceway will host an open track practice for the Masters Classic competitors on Thursday, May 29, from 7 until 9 p.m. The Knoxville Masters Classic & 305 Shootout will take place on Friday, May 30, starting at 6:45 p.m. The Carquest Night of 360- and 410-cubic-inch sprinters will conclude the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame induction weekend of racing on Saturday, May 31, also starting at 6:45 p.m.
