NATIONAL SPRINT CAR MUSEUM TO HOST RECEPTION FOR
NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BOB BAKER ON THURSDAY, JUNE 19

KNOXVILLE, IA (June 12) - The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum is pleased to announce that a free and open-to-the-public reception for new executive director Bob Baker will be held on the second floor of the museum in Knoxville on Thursday, June 19, from 6 until 10 p.m. Citizens of Knoxville and Marion County and fans of Knoxville Raceway will have the opportunity to meet the former World of Outlaws (WoO) marketing director in a casual and relaxed environment, all the while the stars and midget cars of the United States Auto Club (USAC), Badger Midget Auto Racing Association (BMARA) and POWRI sanctions will be practicing on the legendary half-mile dirt track just outside from 7 until 9 p.m.

According to outgoing executive director and soon-to-be curator Tom Schmeh, “This will be a great chance for the citizens of Knoxville to meet and visit with the non-profit museum foundation’s new leader. I expect he will be active within the community once he settles into his new role, so its just a good opportunity to meet those with whom he’ll be working on a daily basis in the future. And combining it with the kick-off to the Pepsi Knoxville Midget Nationals and the nearby Indy Racing League (IRL) weekend in Newton is just a bonus. Of course, most individuals in the racing community already know Bob from his years with the World of Outlaws, Weld Racing, and his promotional stints with the tracks in Kansas City, Kansas, and Odessa and Sedalia, Missouri.“

Bob Baker of Olathe, Kansas, will be only the third executive director of the 501(c)(3) national non-profit museum foundation in twenty years, with G. Wayne Hall of Texas holding the position from January of 1988 through March of '89, and Thomas J. Schmeh of New York handling those duties from May of 1989 through mid-June of 2008. According to Schmeh, "I've known Bob for nearly my entire time here and he will be a great steward for this national institution. And, with his professional drive and personal desire to see this place grow, there is no reason for me to believe that he won't be leading this foundation for the next twenty years!"

The second floor of the museum will be open for the Bob Baker reception from 6 until 10 p.m., while the midget cars will be practicing from 7 until 9 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be provided. The reception and the viewing of the practice session from the second floor are free and open to the general public. For more information, people are urged to call the museum at 1-800-874-4488.
