MUSEUM TO HOST BENEFIT AUCTION IN CONJUNCTION WITH
LUCAS OIL LATE MODEL KNOXVILLE NATIONALS

KNOXVILLE, IA (Sept 20) - The non-profit National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum Foundation will host its fifth annual Knoxville Late Model Auction on Saturday afternoon, September 27, in conjunction with the three-day Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals, presented by SuperClean. The auction of unique, autographed souvenirs and memorabilia, which will also benefit the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame, will begin at 12 Noon on the museum’s second floor. It is free and open to the general public, and it will be emceed by Kathy Krafka Harkema and auctioneered by former dirt late model driver Lynn Richard.

Two of the premier items to be auctioned are a hand-made quilt of World of Outlaws (WoO) Late Model Series driver t-shirts and a Rusty Wallace-autographed Iowa Speedway inaugural season ticket set. The quilt is being made by Amy & Chad Krahn of Minnesota, and it includes autographed t-shirts from Tim McCreadie, Shannon Babb, Clint Smith, Steve Francis, Darrell Lanigan, Chub Frank, Josh Richards, Rick Eckert, Tim Fuller and Shane Clanton. Kevin Kovac of the WoO Late Model Series coordinated the collection of the shirts. The Iowa Speedway in nearby Newton, which will host a NASCAR Nationwide Series race in 2009, donated the Wallace-autographed ticket set.

Other items being auctioned are a Conrad Nelson-donated Lucas (Oil) Racing hat signed by last year’s ‘top three’ drivers in the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals (Brady Smith, Billy Moyer, Steve Francis), and autographed die-cast and apparel items from Steve Kinser, Ryan Newman, Tony Stewart, Ron Hornaday, Steve Park, Kenny Schrader and several others. Many drivers participating in the September 25-26-27 event at the Knoxville Raceway, such as Brian Birkhofer, Brian Shirley, Australians Ben & Brad Ludlow, Scott Bloomquist, former Knoxville sprint car driver Rocky Hodges, Billy Drake, Jill George, Chris Smyser, Darren Miller, Donnie Moran and Earl Pearson (Jr.), are expected to donate items on the days leading up to the Speed-televised race.

According to museum executive director Bob Baker, “We sincerely appreciate the support of all of the drivers and teams that donate unique, autographed items to our live auction. And we thank people like the Krahn’s, Kevin Kovac, Conrad Nelson, Mike Jacobi, Dave Derragon, Jim Valentine, Kathy Krafka Harkema, Lynn Richard and his entire family, and the staffs of the Knoxville Raceway and the Iowa Speedway for their generous contributions. Fundraising auctions like this are critical to the success of non-profit institutions like the National Sprint Car Museum and the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame.”
