Kearney is in the mood at 305 Mid-States Championship

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Sept 26) John Kearney, Valley Falls, Kansas led flag to
flag in garnering the second night feature event on Friday night at
Knoxville Raceway. 24-hours earlier he had to scratch from the qualifying
feature event while sitting in a fourth row start.
This time he was lined up side by side with Clint Garner who won the feature
event just one night prior. When the green flag flew Kearney took the lead
when he and Garner entered turn three. Kearney dove deeper and came by the
flagstand with the lead.
From then to the finish Kearney would never look back as he roared away to
big leads only to lose them to yellow flags.
The first yellow came out when second place runner, Garner, slowed in turn
three and coasted to a stop against the fences in turn four, the victim of a
blown engine. Kearney had built a 20 car-length advantage.
Yellow flag number two flew on lap nine when Mitchell Moore struck the
backstretch but kept on going. An inadvertant yellow flew slowing the field.
Again Kearney had a huge lead at the time.
The final yellow came out just at the end of lap 13 when Mark Widmar struck
the retaing wall on the backstretch destroying his front end.
In the end, no one had anything for Kearney as he dashed across the finish
line. On a track that had turned dry and slick, Kearney was followed to the
checkereds by Rager Phillips, Justin Giannetto, Chad Huston and Casey
Friedrichsen.
