19th Annual IMCA “Harris Clash” at Knoxville on Tuesday and Wednesday

KNOXVILLE, IOWA  (July 3, 2010)  -  The International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) modifieds, sport mods, and dirt late model stock cars are back at the legendary Knoxville Raceway half-mile dirt oval on Tuesday-Wednesday, July 6-7, for the 19th annual “Harris Clash”.  The modifieds will compete on Tuesday, July 6, for $2,000 to win in a 25-lapper, while the Deery Brothers Summer Series late models will race on Wednesday, July 7, in a $2,000-to-win, 25-lap feature.  The sport mods will be the support division on Wednesday night and they will compete for $600 to win in a 15-lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods main.

According to Knoxville’s director of racing Ralph Capitani, “We expect over 100 modifieds on Tuesday, and over 75 sport mods and 25 late models on Wednesday.  Although I am not overly knowledgable on IMCA racing in the Midwest, I am familiar with the names of pre-entered drivers like Bill Davis (Jr.), Richie Gustin, Adam Larson, David Murray, Johnny Saathoff, Ricky Stephan, Kyle Strickler, Brett Moffitt, Carter VanDenBerg, Jeff Aikey, Mark Burgtorf, Darrel DeFrance, Ray Guss (Jr.) and Jay Johnson to name a few.  I know that Bob Harris has done another outstanding job lining up some of the best drivers in the Midwest to compete for the ‘Harris Clash’ titles this year.  In fact, I’m looking forward to seeing Kyle Strickler, formerly of Donnie Kreitz’s hometown of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, and now of Mooresville, North Carolina, compete here for the first time.”

Last year’s winners were Jay Noteboom (modifieds), Matt Lettow (sport mods) and Tommy Elston (late models).  Continued Capitani, “It was only appropriate last year for Keokuk’s Tommy Elston to win the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series race here during the ‘Harris Clash’.  Tommy continued the grand tradition of ‘Keokuk Gang’ winners at Knoxville, including Ramo Stott, Dick Hutcherson, Ernie Derr and Don White, from back in the Sixties and Seventies.  And I see where Josh Most of Red Oak, Iowa, will be running a chassis built by Charlie Swartz, whose dad Audie finished second in our very first Knoxville Nationals back in 1961 and who sadly passed away this week in Lucasville, Ohio.  Our thoughts are with Charlie and the entire Swartz family. ”
