AFTER DAY NUMBER NINE, SAMMY SWINDELL JUST NEEDS TO START TONIGHT’S “A” MAIN TO CLINCH THE COX DESIGN IOWA SPEEDWEEK/JESSE HOCKETT “MR. SPRINT CAR” TITLE

KNOXVILLE, IOWA  (August 14, 2010)  -  As soon as 1983 Knoxville Nationals champion Sammy Swindell takes the green flag for tonight’s 50-lap Goodyear Knoxville Nationals “A” Main, he will clinch the 2010 Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speed Week point championship and its Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint Car” title.  Mathematically, only Brooke Tatnell and Bronson Maeschen can catch the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee for the title and that is only if the Tennessee native does not start the 50th annual National Championship feature.  Sammy is slated to start the $150,000-to-win event on the outside of the front row.  The ten-night title also becomes Swindell’s if neither Tatnell nor Maeschen qualify for the “A” Main tonight.

The unofficial top twenty in the 2010 Cox Design Iowa Speedweek points after nine shows are as follows:  1., Sammy Swindell, 244 points; 2., Brooke Tatnell, 219 points; 3., Bronson Maeschen, 205 points; 4., Brandon “Bud” Kaeding, 185 points; 5., Jason Johnson, 177 points; 6., Robby Wolfgang, 171 points; 7., Brian Brown, 170 points; 8., Jamie Veal, 169 points; 9., Brady Bacon, 167 points; 10., Davey Heskin, 162 points; 11., Shane Stewart, 150 points; 12., Johnny Herrera, 147 points; 13., Rager Phillips, 143 points; 14., Paul McMahan, 137 points; 15., Kerry Madsen, 134 points; 16., A.J. “Skip” Jackson, 133 points; 17., Cale Conley & Ricky Logan, 130 points (tied); 19., Jonathan Allard, 128 points; 20., Randy Hannagan, 126 points.

The Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speedweek includes ten straight nights of sprint car racing between Knoxville Raceway and the Southern Iowa Speedway.  The top three places pay $2,500, $1,000, and $500, respectively, with the winner declared the Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint Car” titlist.  Past “Mr. Sprint Car” titlists include Ricky Logan (2002) of Arkansas, Shane Stewart (2003, ’04) of Oklahoma, Billy Alley (2005) of Nebraska, Jason Johnson (2006) of Louisiana, Wayne Johnson (2007, ‘08) of Oklahoma, and Terry McCarl (2009) of Iowa.
