NATIONAL SPRINT CAR MUSEUM TO HOST “LATE MODEL 101” FORUM ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON OF LATE MODEL KNOXVILLE NATIONALS

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (September 21, 2011) – At 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, in its second floor theater, the National Sprint Car Museum will host a 90-minute “Late Model 101” forum, featuring two related programs.  The first presentation, entitled “Tracing the Evolution of the Dirt Late Model,” will be led by the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame’s Bob Markos and his son Bobby Markos, Jr.  The second discussion will be moderated by Lee Ackerman of www.MidwestRacingArchives.com and it will be entitled “When was the Golden Age of Dirt Late Model Racing?”  The forum is being held in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals, September 29-30-October 1, at the Knoxville Raceway.

According to National Sprint Car Museum curator Tom Schmeh, “We are very pleased to be hosting another historical forum after last year’s successful panel discussion entitled ‘Preserving Late Model Stock Car Racing History in the Upper Midwest.’  Bob Markos and Lee Ackerman have graciously agreed to lead this year’s programs and they will be joined by Bobby Markos, Jr., Mike O’Connor of Dirt Late Model magazine, Barry Johnson of www.PositivelyRacing.com web site, National Sprint Car Museum advisory board member/historian John Nelson and 1974 World 100 winner Ed Sanger.  The ‘Late Model 101’ forum is free and open to the public.  ‘Late Model 101’ will join Friday afternoon’s ‘Stocksville Reunion’ event and Saturday afternoon’s live memorabilia auction as activities geared for the weekend’s stock car racing fans.”
