MUSEUM-BENEFIT L.M. AUCTION FEATURES AUTOGRAPHED ITEMS FROM STEWART, KAHNE, PETTY, BLOOMQUIST, MOYER & OTHERS

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (September 30, 2011) – Today’s eighth annual Knoxville Late Model Auction, which benefits both the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum and the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame, features over sixty autographed items from such motorsports superstars as Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Richard Petty, Scott Bloomquist, Billy Moyer, Ken Schrader and many, many others.  The live auction will begin at 12 Noon on the second floor of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum and it is free and open to the public.

According to museum executive director Bob Baker, “I really have to thank people like Jim Rasmussen, auctioneer Lynn Richard and Bruce Neimeth, as they did a great job today of rounding up unique and autographed donations from the teams in the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals pits at Knoxville Raceway.  The drivers and owners also did their part, as we have many body panels and pieces of die-cast and apparel that will be available tomorrow to their loyal fans.  Without this kind of commitment from motorsports fans and teams, our museum and the dirt late model museum in Florence, Kentucky, could never keep our respective doors open to the general public.”

Following the live auction, the museum will host a 90-minute “Late Model 101” forum at 3 p.m. in its second floor theater.  The first presentation, entitled “Tracing the Evolution of the Dirt Late Model,” will be led by the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame’s Bob Markos and his son Bobby Markos, Jr.  The second discussion will be moderated by Lee Ackerman of www.MidwestRacingArchives.com and it will be entitled “When was the Golden Age of Dirt Late Model Racing?”  The forum, like the auction, is being held in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals, presented by Casey’s General Stores, at the half-mile Knoxville Raceway dirt track.
