Roberts out-powers Foster for Donnellson IMCA Modified Triumph
By Jake Croxton

DONNELLSON, Ia (June 2, 2006) – After starting fifth, Billy Roberts surged past Darin Thye on lap 2 of the Discount Tire IMCA Modified 20-lapper at the Lee County Speedway. Current LCS Points Leader Josh Foster tried every line to work around the Burlington, Iowa driver, including a last lap move that ended up with Foster in the infield and Dave Wietholder in the runner-up position. Roberts earned his first points paying feature win of 2006 in his Roberts Tire Center / Roderrer’s Pit Stop / Raider. Foster held on for third ahead of Kevin Cale and Dennis LaVeine.

John Oliver, Jr. got around pole starter Dennis Harwood and promptly checked out on the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car field. However, the Danville, Iowa driver’s bid for four in a row slowly deflated along with his right rear tire. Ryan Meyer slowly reeled him in and went on to score his second points-paying win and third overall of the season. Kirk Kinsley brought home second ahead of Jeff Mueller, Harwood, and Abe Huls.

Jim Oliver, Jr. brought the 22-car Donnellson Tire Hobby Stock 15-lapper to the start and led the opening three circuits, before the bad luck bug sent him to the infield. Brad Weber would led the next three laps before giving way to John Oliver, Jr. The former Track Champion made up for the Stock Car mishap and earned the race win in his Oliver Tri-County Heating & Air / Century 21 / Cutlass. Weber made it consecutive top-two finished ahead of Matt Gavin, points leader Dan Wenig, and Rodger Dresden.

Jim Gillenwater led the opening nine laps of the Arrowhead Bowl B-Modified finale before slowing in front of the field. Gillenwater nearly collected Wyatt Lantz, but the defending champion avoided disaster and went on to lead the rest of the way in his Keokuk Collision Center / McDowell Crane Service / Raider. Jeff Waterman, Scott Boles, Joe Hooper, and Don Merten rounded out the top five.

Ron Kibbe earned honors in the GM Giant Wild Thing Rookie Rally. In feature action, Gordon Blankenship, Jr. scored his first win in his title defense by holding off Dennis Schulte and Dave Burdette. Tyler Schulte and Kibbe finished the event in the top five.

Next week, Backslash Technologies presents IMCA Late Models racing for National points. All five weekly classes will be in competition as well. Mass giveaways are scheduled, including a computer, courtesy of Backslash Technologies and I-Wireless. Race time is 7:30.
