Lee County Speedway hosted its annual 2006 awards banquet

DONNELLSON, IA (Jan. 31, 2007) The 2006 Lee County Speedway hosted its annual awards banquet on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Comfort Inn & Suites, Fort Madison, Iowa. With a near record setting attendance, the annual banquet honored the 2006 season's top 10 in points along with some special awards.

All five track champions received, in addition to point fund money, jacket, and trophy, $500 from Johnny Johnson and Ideal Ready Mix, a photo plaque, parking sign, and gear bag. Track Promoter, Terry Hoenig, handed out $10 bills to the IMCA Stock Car and the B-Modified division drivers for perfect banquet attendance as all top 10 drivers were present in each of those classes. 2006 Rookies of Year awards were given to Brandon Savage - B-Modified, Eric Rowley - Hobby Stock, Ron Kibbe - Wild Thing, Tyler Cale - IMCA Modified, and Kirk Kinsley - IMCA Stock Car. With Travis DeMint capturing the 2006 Most Improved Driver award.

The upcoming 2007 season will begin the 10th year for track promoters, Terry & Jenni Hoenig. "We are so excited about the upcoming season." Hoenig announced, "With several new cars on the registration books, the addition of the Power-I Midget show in June, and several new promotions running along side our weekly racing program we are going to put the FUN back in our Friday Night Races." It has been 5 years since the Hoenigs have had only one race track to focus on and it was evident Saturday night that all of their energy and concentration has returned to Lee County Speedway. "I am also looking forward to spending some time with my two little girls." Hoenig further commented, "Sending the girls to Grandma's for two nights or more a week was getting tough for everyone. I have missed a lot over the past 5 years and I am ready to make up for that." Lee County is slated to open April 27th with the first of six Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders Specials.
