“Shiverfest”

DONNELLSON, IA (Oct 9) - Race fans in the upper Midwest have been able to wear shorts and a t-shirt to many of the late season specials and hopefully some of that nice weather can stick around for ten more days for the eighth running of “Shiverfest”. Iowa’s racing finale that includes a unique mixture of racing and family fun is scheduled for Saturday October 20th at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson and just about any weather has to be warmer than what the drivers and fans endured last year.

A steady rain began to fall just after the pit gates opened on Saturday and the show was pushed back to the following day with weather forecasts calling for sunny skies, diminishing winds and temperatures in the fifties. They were wrong on all three counts! Still a solid field of 140 cars put on quite a show for the chilled race fans and over $1,200 was raised for the Southeast Renal Dialysis Units that serve the region. Hopefully “Mother Nature” will cooperate a little better this year!

The “Shiverfest” card will again feature five racing divisions with the Modifieds gunning for a $500 top prize, Stock Cars will battle for $300-to-win, the B-Modified feature winner will earn $275 and the Hobby Stock feature winner will collect a $250 check. The four cylinder “Wild Things” will also be in action with $100 going to the winner. Drivers who are ranked in the top one hundred of the All Iowa Points are eligible for bonus money in victory lane and details can be found at www.leecountyspeedway.com . Also, any drivers who have not yet raced at the Speedway in 2007 are encouraged to print out the registration form and have it completed and ready to turn in to expedite the check-in process.

Kids in costume will once again be able to participate in trick-or-treating with the drivers in the infield after hot laps. There will also be hayrack ride pit tours and more for fans of all ages during this family fun event. Pit gates will open at noon and drivers are encouraged to arrive early. The pill draw will end at 3:00 p.m. as the drivers’ meeting begins and hot laps will get underway at 3:15. Drivers who would like to participate in trick-or-treating for the kids should have their car and their treats ready to go to the infield at 4:00 and green flag racing will get underway at 4:30 p.m..

“Shiverfest” is proud to raise funds for the dialysis patients and their families at the Southeast Renal Dialysis units in Keokuk, Burlington, Fort Madison and Mt. Pleasant. Area event sponsors will be donating funds on behalf of this event and a fifty-fifty raffle will be conducted by volunteers from these units to increase that amount. We also hope to raise awareness of the early signs of kidney disease and stress the importance of having a signed organ donor card.
