DONNELLSON, IA (Mar 3) – Twenty-two dates adorn the 2008 schedule at the Lee County Speedway. In all, the Donnellson, Iowa, facility will showcase twelve special events and ten standard weekly racing series events beginning with the April 25 opener for the Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models.

Arguably, the most anticipated event on the 2008 schedule will include the appearance of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star and former USAC Triple Crown winner J.
J. Yeley. The native of Phoenix, Arizona, will saddle up a Winged 360 Sprint Car on Wednesday, June 18, and do battle against the O’Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw Warriors. The event will mark the second stop in a month in Donnellson as the series will also appear on Friday, May 23, of Memorial Day weekend.

As summer temperatures rise, IMCA Modified and IMCA Stock Car competitors will vie for increased money during the 1st Annual Liberty Cup on Thursday, July 3.
The 35-lap IMCA Modified feature will pay $1,500 to the winner, while $1,000 will await the IMCA Stock Car competitor that can compete their 30-lap distance first. Hobby Stocks and Wild Things will also compete on July 3, for increased money.

Ideal Ready Mix will again sponsor a five-race mini-series for the IMCA Late Models. Last season, Tom Darbyshire earned the title as five drivers had a shot at a championship on the final night. The IMCA Late Models will appear on April 25, May 30, June 27, July 18, and August 15.

The Mid-America Winged 305 Sprints are scheduled to appear on September 20. For the ninth time, Shiverfest will close out the slate on October 25. Among the weekly promotions are Christmas in July, Dukes of Hazzard Night, Figure 8 Races, Fan Appreciation Night, and Thirsty Friday.

In other news, the facility would like to welcome Lawson Racing as the sponsor of the SportMod class in 2008. The former B-Mod class will remain unsanctioned for this season as it adopts its new name, before becoming an IMCA-sanctioned class in 2009. Lawson Racing will also be the Official Parts Supplier of Lee County Speedway. Fleck Sales and their Miller Lite brand will sponsor the IMCA Modified division in 2008.

Several new faces will join the staff in 2008. The speedway would like to welcome Doug Miller, Derrick Dixon, Dewain Hulett, Lori Riddle, and Matt Hoenig to the team. Miller will join the Technical Inspection team, Dixon assumes the lead scoring position, Hulett enters the announcing booth, Riddle assumes the duty of Concessions Manager, and Hoenig will take on concessions engineer. Former announcer Jake Croxton will move to the flagstand.
