2006 Racing Season Off And Running
By Denny Grabenbauer

Marshalltown, Ia (April 7, 2006) - Considering a cold night and a stiff north wind blowing, a large crowd greeted new track promoter Toby Kruse as the rookie was put to work at the Marshalltown Speedway this past Friday night. “I can’t tell you what it feels like to have all these people coming up to you and wishing you good luck,” said Kruse. “There have been so many people that have come out day after day and week after week this winter to get the place in shape and I am so proud of the way things have turned out, and I just want to thank everyone for all of there help.”

With high enthusiasm, the 2006 racing season began with 105-race teams doing battle and take a look at the vast improvements that have been made to the historic facility. “It’s almost hard to believe that this is the same race track,” said I.M.C.A. Modified driver Mike O’Lear. “With the new lighting around the speedway, its just like daylight all the way around the track.”

Dirt was added to the raceway to even out the corners and build back the racing surface that erosion had taken away. “We have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go in giving a smooth race track to the drivers,” said Kruse. “Now that we have a good night of racing under our belts we can see where the problem areas are and we can continue to smooth things out.”

Racing will continue next Friday night. The main grandstand will open at 5:30. Hot laps will begin at 6:45 and the first race of the night will get underway at 7:30.
