Doubleheader next for Deery Series with trips set to Marshalltown, Harlan July 11-12

MARSHALLTOWN, Ia (July 6, 2006) - The Deery Brothers Summer Series makes a much anticipated return to Marshalltown Speedway, before making its first ever visit to Shelby County Speedway at Harlan in midweek doubleheader action Tuesday and Wednesday, July 11-12.

Both IMCA Sunoco Late Model tour events pay $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start in the 24 car main events.

Series drivers made their most recent tour appearance at Marshalltown during the 2000 race season. Curt Martin of Independence has won five of the previous 15 Deery events held there.

IMCA Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods join both programs, with that class also debuting at Shelby County. Top prize is $200 on Tuesday and $300 on Wednesday; IMCA national and Smiley’s Racing Products state points will be awarded each night.

Pit gates at Marshalltown open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6:45 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Dwarf cars round out the Tuesday show.

At Harlan, gates open at 3 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing to follow. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6-12, while five and under are admitted free when accompanying a paid adult.

Also running Wednesday night at Harlan are the pro am and hornet classes.

Rob Toland of Bettendorf edged ahead of Waterloo’s Jeff Aikey in the Deery Series point standings after the pair ran second and third, respectively, in the July 3 feature at Independence Motor Speedway. Standings have been updated to reflect a correction in the finish of that event, as Mike Murphy Jr. of Colona, Ill., was promoted to eighth. He’d initially been scored in the 21st spot.
