Victory Lane Welcomes Back to Area Drivers
By Denny Grabenbauer

MARSHALLTOWN, IA. (July 7, 2006) - Week number thirteen roared to life this past Friday night at the Marshalltown Speedway with another action packed night of close racing action. Two and three wide racing which race fans have been accustomed to in previous weeks, were again the topic, as the drivers would tackle the slippery high banked quarter mile raceway, in the qualifying heat and feature races. Heat races would be run, in record time, as starting positions would be determined.

Shawn Ritter would jump out in front on the opening lap of the I.M.C.A. Sport Mod feature, and hold the top spot until the yellow flag would come out on lap four. On the restart, Brett Ladehoff would make the pass off of turn two to take the lead and go on to score his forth feature of the season and his first since week six. “It seems like we just couldn’t get a break,” said a relieved Ladehoff in victory lane. “But tonight, I liked the way the track came around, our car was fast and everything work right and I am just happy to be back here in victory lane again.” Point leader Jason Mallicoat would finish second followed by Scott Jorpeland and Tony Olson.

It would be green to checkered eighteen-lap race for the I.M.C.A. Stock Cars and for the first time in over a year, Dusty Vis would be the first one across the finish line. With Vis opening a considerable lead, the battle was for the second position as Tracy Gienger and Damon Murty would run side by side for nearly ten laps before Gienger would edge our Murty for second. The last lap would be the only real challenge for winner Vis, having to find the best way around the lap traffic. “I had one car up high and one car down low, I just guessed on the best way to get by, it worked and I won,” said Vis. Finishing forth would be Kyle Krampe, posting his first top four of the year.

Yellow flags in the I.M.C.A. Modified feature would be the only thing that would slow Adam Larson from Ames down in his twenty lap feature event. Larson, who has just started making frequent visits back to the speedway, pick up his first feature event in many years. Leading from the drop of the green flag through yellow flags, then a two-lap shoot out at the end would find Larson in a three-car battle when the checkered flag would fly. “The track was a one lane high groove track for me, which I really like,” said Larson in victory lane with his mother and father present. “I knew if I kept hitting my mark on the track and stayed smooth, they wouldn’t get by me.” Mike O’Lear and David Brown would finish a close second and third with last weeks winner Vern Jackson coming home in forth.

Donovan Smith would go to victory lane for the ninth time of the season in the I.M.C.A. Hobby Stock feature as he would take the lead from Kevin Sather on lap seven, and then drive away for the victory. Sather, Dustin Elliott and Mike Zeman would round out the top four.

With Friday night’s racing action coming to an end at 9:25, track promoter Toby Kruse is already looking forward to the Central Iowa Fair and next weeks “Super Show” on Tuesday night. “Race fans and drivers have been waiting for this night for the past six years and I am just glad that its finally going to take place,” said Kruse. What Kruse is referring to is the Deery Brothers I.M.C.A. Late Models coming back home on Tuesday night. “Marshalltown has always been referred to as the home of Late Model racing, but they haven’t raced here, well on Tuesday night they will be back home and the drivers I think are as excited as the fans about the return visit.” Hot laps will begin at 6:45 and the racing will begin at 7:30. “We are also adding the Dwarf Cars and I.M.C.A. Sport Mods to the program, again to have something for everyone.”

Tuesday will be the first of two fair race programs as the regular Friday night races will begin next Friday night with hot laps at the regular time of 6:30 and the first race will begin at 7:30. For additional information go to www.marshalltownspeedway.com
