Perfect Night Makes For Perfect Racing!
By Denny Grabenbauer

MARSHALLTOWN, IA (July 20) - Near perfect weather conditions on Friday night would produce near race results as The Fisher Division of Emerson Process Management greeted race fans and competitors during week number thirteen of the 2007 racing season. The near capacity crowd, which included race fans making the trip from New York, and race teams from Wisconsin competing on the high banked quarter mile raceway watched close side by side racing from the first green flag at 7:30 until the final checkered flag at 9:34 to end the nights racing action. “I guess you could say it was a near perfect night”, said promoter Toby Kruse. “When ever you have right at one-hundred race cars, eighteen different races and be done in just a shade over two-hours, have no serious incidents where we didn’t tear up any cars, give the fans plenty of time to meet there favorite drivers, then I guess you can say, it was a perfect night”.

Milestones were accomplished Friday night in the Aarons I.M.C.A Stock Car division, as Rick Brown would post his 101st career Stock Car victory. Brown would post the victory, but the win would be a hard fought battle with fellow competitor Luke Veren right to the final corner of the eighteen-lap event. Kyle Krampe would take the lead on the opening lap, as the field would bunch themselves in there tradition three and four wide racing around the track as everyone would try to better there running order position. Yellow flags would come out on laps six and eight, slowing the field and bunching everyone up on the restarts. The first yellow would appear on lap six and on the restart Brown would push his Ford Thunderbird to the front. Another yellow on lap eight would again bunch the field and on the restart Luke Veren, last week feature winner would take the lead from Brown. The two would trade the top spot two to three times each lap. With three laps to go, and Veren in the lead, Veren would bobble in turn two allowing Brown to regain the lead. Then it would be a scramble to the finish with Veren running high Brown running low right to the end. Brown would score the victory Veren would finish second and Dusty Vis and Donovan Smith who also was within sticking distance right to the end would follow them across the line. “Tonight we had a second place car”, said Brown in the Aarons Victory Lane. “Luke jumped the groove and I took advantage of that, it was just a fun race to take home.”

Two yellow flags would come out in the first ten laps of the twenty lap I.M.C.A. Modified feature before settling down in there racing rhythm. Dan Arp, Dane Sire, Scott Simatovich would lead the first five laps before Vern Jackson would put his car out front, a position he would maintain right to the checkered flag, as Jackson would score his third feature win in a row and his fifth of the season. Even though Jackson would take the win, all eyes were on point leader Jimmy Gustin as Gustin was charging right to the checkered flag and would finish a close second. Finishing third would be J.D. Auringer with Jeff Schroyer in forth.

Brett Meyer would continue his winning ways by scoring his third feature win in a row in the I.M.C.A. Sport Mod class. Kyle Brown would lead in the early going, but because of leaking fuel would be black-flagged and sent to the pit area. Neal Follett would take over the top spot for the next two circuits before Meyer would take the lead on lap five and never look back. Follett would finish second followed by Danny Dvorak and Ryan Engelkes.

Jamie Schirm would score his second feature win of the season in the I.M.C.A. Hobby Stock feature and his first since week number four. Todd Reitzler would finish second followed by Luke Wanninger and Beau Kaplan.

Mike Morrill would win his third feature and his second in as many weeks in the Dwarf Car feature. The only yellow flag would come on lap six which would bunch up the field on the restart. Mike Kennedy would finish in second followed by point leader Andy Hennigar and Tim Hennigar would finish in forth.

Next Friday night marks the end of the month of July, which means the King of the Hill event for the I.M.C.A. Sport Mods. The grandstand will open at 5:30 with hot laps beginning at 6:45 and the first race of the evening will begin at 7:30.
