Richie Gustin works through lapped traffic for
JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour checkers
By Jeff Werderman

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 17) – Richie Gustin Jr. battled through heavy lapped traffic to score his third JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour win of the season on opening night of  Marshalltown Speedway’s Havoc On The Highbanks special.

The Friday checkers paid $1,250. The main event for IMCA Modifieds ran caution free.

Gustin, Jon Snyder and Scott Simatovich battled for the lead two and three wide early in the feature. Gustin made his move as the front trio moved into lapped traffic. He worked into the lead and put a couple lapped cars between himself and the Snyder/Simatovich duo.

There was little rest for Gustin though, as he had constantly work through the back of the field. Snyder wrestled second away from Simatovich a few laps later.

Snyder finished second followed by Simatovich, Josh Gilman and Jimmy Gustin. Jeff Morris was the hard charger, gaining 14 spots to finish sixth.

Another $1,250 top prize for the Modifieds is at stake Saturday on night two of the Arizona Racing Engines and Performance Parts Havoc special. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.

More information is available by calling the track office at 515 432-4703 and at the www.marshalltownspeedway.com website.

The series finale is Saturday, Sept. 25 at 34 Raceway in West Burlington.
