Four New Winners Visit Victory Lane at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway
by Brian Neal

MEMPHIS, MO (June 10, 2006) - KRNQ Radio Night at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway produced some great racing action, along with four new winners ending up in victory lane. Thad Trump (Late Models), Mark Burgtorf (Bentz GM Country USRA Modifieds), Bill Gibson (USRA Hobby Stocks) and John Oliver Jr. (Outlaw Hobby Stocks) each picked up there first feature wins on the season, while Matt Greiner (USRA Stock Cars), Tony Dunker (Toni Dunker Advance Trading USRA B-Modifieds) and Brent Hartley (Hornets) were repeat winners.

The evening started out with the USRA Hobby Stock 12 lap feature, with Mark Moore and Mike Shelton drawing the front row for the event. But it was third place starter Bill Gibson grabbing the lead on the drop of the green flag. Gibson would hold off several challenges from Mike Shelton to lead all 12 laps and claim his first win of the season at Memphis. Robby Sands came home in third, Rusty Sands was fourth, with Moore holding on to finish in fifth. Heat race winners were Moore and Shelton.

J.D. Murphy and Cody Martin led the field to the green in the 10 lap Hornet feature, with Brent Hartley, who started fourth, grabbing the lead on lap 1. Hartley would hold the lead until lap 5, when Andrew Hustead jumped to his outside to take over the top spot. Hustead and Hartley battled side-by-side over the next four laps, before Hartley took the advantage out front on lap 9. Hartley then held off Hustead on the final lap to pick up his second win in a row at the speedway. Murphy held on for third, Bill Young was fourth, with Brian Lemen coming home in fifth. Hustead picked up the heat race win.

Up next was the 20 lap Keith's Foods Late Model feature, with Thad Trump and Rickey Frankel making up the front row for the event. Trump took advantage of his front row start to jump into the lead on lap 1. Trump held the top spot until lap 14, when Tommy Elston slipped by on his outside to grab the lead. Elston would bobble on lap 16, allowing Trump to slip back by for the lead. Trump then held Elston off on the final four laps to claim his first win of 2006 at Memphis. Jody Wood came from ninth to finish in third, Gordy Grubb was fourth, with Frankel holding on to finish in fifth. The heat race win went to Elston.

The 15 lap Toni Dunker Advance Trading USRA B-Modified feature had Ron York and Jerry Shoemaker on the front row, with York moving out front on the drop of the green flag. York would continue to lead the field, as Toni Dunker, who started eighth, Jack Evans Jr., who started sixteenth, and Jerry Poor, who started seventh, were working their way towards the front. Poor would jump under York on lap 8 to take over the top spot, only to loose it to Dunker one lap later. Dunker then held off Evans Jr. to pick up his fourth win of the season at the speedway. Poor held on for third, York came home in fourth, with Joe Hooper rounding out the top five. Larry Newman and Dunker each claimed a heat race win.

Dave Hudson and Bobby McCartney drew the front row for the 15 lap Outlaw Hobby Stock feature, but it was sixth place starter John Oliver Jr. making some bold moves to lead lap 1. Oliver Jr. was pulling away from the field, when a late caution brought the rest of the field to his back bumper. On the restart, Oliver Jr. once again jumped into the lead, but now had to fend of Beau Taylor, who started tenth. Taylor tried Oliver Jr. on the high side, but couldn't make the pass as Oliver Jr. held on for his first win of 2006 at the speedway. Brandon Rothzen came home in third, Jeff Soper was fourth, with Rodger Dresden coming from twelfth to round out the top five. Heat race winners were Taylor, Dresden and Oliver Jr.

The 15 lap USRA Stock Car feature was up next, with rookie Abe Huls and Ryan Cook on the front row. Ryan jumped out into the lead on the drop of the green flag and then held it until lap 3, when Matt Greiner slipped under him for the top spot. Greiner would then go on to lead the final 12 laps to claim his second win of the season at Memphis. Ryan held on for second, Troy Alexander was third, Jason Cook came from tenth to finish in fourth, with Huls coming home in fifth. J. Cook and Alexander each picked up a heat race win.

The final feature of the night was the 20 lap Bentz GM Country USRA Modified feature, with Mike Delozier and Martin Bennett drawing the front row for the event. On the drop of the green flag, Bennett would grab the lead, with Mark Burgtorf close behind in second. Bennett and Burgtorf would run side-by-side for the top spot until lap 13, when Burgtorf got the advantage out front. Burgtorf then held off Bennett to pick up his first win of the season at the speedway. Mike Bennett came home third, Michael Long was fourth, with Tony Fraise coming from tenth to round out the top five. Heat race wins went to Martin Bennett and Burgtorf.
