Mitrisin Owns Memphis Invaders
By Jake Croxton

MEMPHIS, MO (June 20, 2006) – “The Magician” Jeff Mitrisin drove his Wares-Harrison Motorsports / Mitrisin Motors / Eagle to a straightaway lead at times in the Prim Rose Realty / Eggleston Bookkeeping 25 at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway. Mitrisin became the sixth different winner in six Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders A-Features in 2006. The Oskaloosa, Iowa driver also earned top honors in the Mid-America 305 Feature earlier in the evening.

“This is every racer’s dream, to win both deals,” said Mitrisin. “We won the Dash and had some luck on our side. We drew the number one pill, but we had a good racecar, too. I think we could’ve started in the first couple rows – I was pretty determined earlier. I like this racetrack.”

Early in the 25-lapper, Mitrisin had his hands full with all-time series win-leader Jerrod Hull of Sikeston, Missouri. Hull started fourth, but quickly moved in behind Mitrisin at the drop of the green.

“I saw him and we diced and sliced,” Mitrisin said of Hull. “He slid me and I slid him…He was a hair tighter than me and he could roll the bottom in one and two. I
couldn’t really run the bottom – we really didn’t set it up for down there.”

“The bottom blew off really quick,” Hull said of the racing surface. “The first four or five laps, I though we had something for them…but as that blew away, we
moved to the top and it wasn’t really that bad. After the caution there, the right rear sealed over. It was a tire we tried to get another night out of. I guess we should’ve bought a new one. After the tire sealed over, (Mitrisin) kind of had us covered.”

As the leaders entered lapped traffic for the first time, Mitrisin split though the middle of two lapped cars and then had to deal with outside front-row starter Larry Ball, Jr.

Ball, Jr. worked past Mitrisin in traffic, but Stevie Walsh and Tony Daniels’ spins at opposite ends of the 3/8-mile triggered the only caution of the event. That negated Ball, Jr.’s pass, but larger problems loomed for the Van Gorp Construction / Eagle. An overheating problem would send the former series runner-up to the pits.

“He was running really well,” Hull commented Ball, Jr.’s run. “He could run the top and cut down through the middle. He had a good shot of winning and we were
pretty much a third place car. After he fell out, I guess it was bad for him and good for us.”

With open track, Mitrisin pulled away on the restart and cruised to his second career Sprint Invaders win. Behind Hull, Jesse Hockett, Matt Rogerson, and 2002
Champion Ryan Jamison completed the top five.

“We were alright,” Hocked admitted of his third place run. “We just weren’t hooked up quite enough, I guess. Track position meant a lot. I got a bad start there
and I was pretty much third the whole race. I couldn’t gain any ground except for when we got into lapped traffic. I hoped we would stay in lapped traffic and
maybe I’d have had more of a shot, but I guess we were the third best car.”

Bobby Mincer, Matt Sutton, Josh Schneiderman, Bobby Hawks, and KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Korey Weyant finished in the top 10. In the Budweiser
B-Main, Dave Anderson survived a scary moment while leading the event. A brake rotor sheared off his Sprinter, piercing the tail tank and resulting in a fire. Anderson complained of a burned foot at the accident scene but was found signing autographs after the event.

The next series stop is a Wednesday night show at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa. The $1,000 to win, $200 to start feature kicks off Independence Day Speedweeks. For more information, consult www.sprintinvaders.com.
