Longs Winning Streak Grows to Five With Win at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway

MEMPHIS, MO (July 7) - The USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series continued at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, MO, with two new winners in victory lane and four repeat winners. Michael Long (USRA Modifieds), Matt Greiner (USRA Stock Cars), Wyatt Lantz (USRA B-Modifieds) and Bill Gibson (USRA Hobby Stocks) claimed repeat wins in there features, while Josh Soper (Outlaw Hobby Stocks) and Andrew Hustead (Hornets) got there first wins of the season.

The night started off with the 10 lap Hornet feature, with Andrew Hustead getting the jump on the drop of the green flag. Hustead would hold off Luke Davidson to pick up his first win of the season at Memphis. Ethan Hustead edged out J.D. Murphy for third.

Up next was the 15 lap USRA Hobby Stock feature, with Mike Shelton and Dustin Griffiths on the front row. Shelton edged out Griffiths at the line to grab the lead on lap 1 and then held it until lap 5, when Bill Gibson jumped to his outside to take over the top spot. Gibson would lead the final 10 laps to pick up his second consecutive and fifth feature win of the season at the speedway. Shelton held on for second, Derek Kirkland would finish in third, Griffiths held on for fourth, with Tim Kraber coming home in fifth. Heat race winners were Gibson and Griffiths.

Joe Hooper and Jeff Waterman started the 15 lap USRA B-Modified feature on the front row, with Hooper grabbing the lead on the drop of the green flag. Hooper would hold the top spot until lap 2, when Wyatt Lantz slipped under him for the lead. Lantz then pulled away over the final 12 laps to pick up his third win in a row at the track. Adam Birck had a career best finish in second, Waterman was third, Hooper was fourth, with Jared Fuller rounding out the top five. Lantz also won the heat race.

The father and son duo of Jeff and Josh Soper led the field to the green in the 15 lap Outlaw Hobby Stock feature, with Jeff edging out his son at the line to lead lap 1. Jeff, who worked the bottom of the speedway, and Josh, who was up top, ran side-by-side for much of the race. The two came off of turn four the same way, with Josh edging out his father at the line by inches to pick up his first win of the season. Rodger Dresden would come home in third, Brandon Symmonds was fourth, with Beau Taylor coming home in fifth. The heat race win went to Jeff Soper.

Up next was the 12 lap USRA Stock Car feature, with Michael Browning and Kiel Morton on the front row. Browning would take advantage of his front row start to lead lap 1 and then held it until lap 9, when Matt Greiner jumped to his outside to take over the top spot. Greiner then held off Browning over the final 3 laps to claim his second in a row and sixth of the season at Memphis. Kale Foster would finish in third, Jim Walker edged out Morton for fourth. Greiner made a sweep of the night by winning the heat race.

The final feature of the night was the 15 lap USRA Modifieds, with Jeff Gerhardt and Dennis Eliott on the front row. But it was third place starter Tony Fraise grabbing the lead on the drop of the green flag. Fraise then held the lead until lap 11, when Michael Long jumped to his outside to take over the top spot. Long would then held off Fraise over the final four laps to pick up his fifth consecutive feature win of the season at the speedway. Elliott held on to finish in third, Martin Bennett was fourth, with Bob Dale coming home in fifth.

Coming up next will be Eggleston Bookkeeping and Primerose Realty night, with the battle for USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series national and track points continuing. In action will be the Modifieds, Stock Cars, B-Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Outlaw Hobby Stocks and Hornets. Gates will open at 5, hot laps will begin at 6:30 and racing to follow.
