Casey Lancaster ran down leader Josh Larson to claim the trophy in the B modified feature

MEMPHIS, Missouri (June 7) - Three new drivers found their way to victory lane at the Scotland County Speedway in Memphis Saturday night, while two others were repeat winners in their respective divisions.

In one of the most exciting races of the night, Casey Lancaster ran down leader Josh Larson to claim the trophy in the B modified feature. Larson started on the pole and seemed to have the field covered, but Lancaster – who started three rows back – worked his way through the field and closed the gap Larson had built up. He took the lead with four laps to go, then held off a late charge from previous winner Jim Gillenwater for the victory. Larson had to settle for third.

In the top modified division, Tony Fraise repeated his feature win from the previous week. Dave Wietholder jumped out to the early lead from his pole position starting spot. On the seventh circuit, he relinquished the lead to Fraise, who was racing hard with Michael Bennett. Fraise eventually stretched the gap and won the 18-lap race easily. Bennett and Wietholder managed to hold on for second and third.

Brandon Symmonds was another new winner at the speedway this year, taking top honors in the hobby stock division. Brian Howerton led the early laps, but was sidelined with mechanical woes after being passed by Symmonds. The best racing of the event was for second through sixth place, with five cars swapping positions throughout the race. Tim Pettibone claimed the second spot, ahead of Jeff Soper, Rodger Dresden, Jim Walker and Jim Sulser.

A.J. Johnson repeated his opening night win, leading all but the first circuit of the stock car feature. Hometowner Mark Holt finished second, ahead of Kyle Chinn.

Kimberly Abbott made her first visit to the speedway memorable, leading the pony stock feature start to finish. She outran William Mitchel, Ethan Hustead, and Dalton McCartney.

Weekly racing continues this Saturday night, June 14, followed by the Scotland County Fair race on Tuesday, June 17. There will be no races at the speedway the Saturday night of the fair (June 21).
