Long, Greiner, Gillenwater, VanGenderen and Symmonds Top J&J AG Memphis Fall Nationals

MEMPHIS, MO (Oct. 18) - Mother nature wasn't to kind to the Scotland County Speedway and promoter Chris Eggers this weekend, as the two day J&J AG Memphis Fall Nationals was only able to get in one night. Saturday was KRNQ Radio / Coors Light / Pepsi Night with 162 cars signed into the pits in hopes of taking home the top prize. Michael Long (Modifieds), Matt Greiner (Stock Cars), Jim Gillenwater (Outlaw B-Modifieds), Mike VanGenderen (9:1 SportMods) and Brandon Symmonds (Hobby Stocks) took home feature wins in there respective classes.

The first feature of the night was the IA-MO Grain 9:1 SprotMod feature, with Rodger Dresden and Mike VanGenderen drawing the front row for the event. VanGenderen would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on the drop of the green flag, with Dresden and Andrew Schroder battling for second. VanGenderen held the top spot until lap 3, when Curtis Engen who started 10th quickly moved up to take over the top spot. Engen gave the lead back to VanGenderen on a lap 5 restart, when the driveshaft came out of his car. VanGenderen then held off Schroeder to claim his first 9:1 SportMod feature in his first start of 2008. Phillip Cossel came home third, Galen Hassler was fourth, with Randy Rudolph coming from 18th to round out the top five. Heat race wins went to Shay Woods, Curtis Engen and Charles VanBoening.

Next up was the Boas Farms Hobby Stock feature, with Andy Coleman and Derek Dettmann leading the field to the drop of the green flag. But it was fourth place starter Dan Wenig grabbing the lead on lap 1 and then held it until lap 5, when Brandon Symmonds who started 5th moved under him to grab the top spot. Symmonds continued to lead, as Dean Kratzer moved up to challenge him for the top spot. Symmonds, who was running the bottom, and Kratzer, who was up top, ran laps 8-12 side-by-side. Kratzer would take the advantage on lap 13, but Symmonds would come back to grab the lead back on lap 14. Symmonds then held off Jim Lynch to take home the feature win. Kratzer slipped to third, Kris Walker charged from 16th to finish fourth, with Jeff Soper coming from 19th to round out the top 5. Lynch, Kratzer, Wenig and Jim Walker took home heat race wins, with Derek Kirkland and Bob Lynch claiming the semis.

Casey Lancaster and Larry Winn led the field to the green flag in the Fuller Farms Outlaw B-Modified feature. But it was fourth place starter Beau Taylor grabbing the lead on lap 1, with Jack Evans Sr. close behind in second. Taylor continued to lead the field, as Jim Gillenwater, who started 8th, was working his way towards the front. Gillenwater would slip under Taylor on lap 15 to take over the top spot, with Tony Dunker, who came from the rear after a flat tire early, following in second. Gillenwater then held off Dunker over the final lap to claim the feature. Evans Sr. was third, Taylor held on for fourth, with Jerad Fuller charging from 18th to claim fifth. Heat race wins went to Dunker, Joe Hooper and Evans Sr.

The Pro-Line Buildings Stock Car feature was up next, with Jason Cook and Mark Holt drawing the front row for the event. Holt took advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1, with Cook and Mike VanGenderen battling for second. VanGenderen would slip under Holt on lap 4 to take over the top spot, with Holt trying to hold off Matt Greiner, who started 8th, for second. VanGenderen would give the lead up on lap 6 when Greiner slipped under him, but VanGenderen came back on the top to take the lead back on lap 7. Greiner slipped back into the lead on lap 8 and then held off VanGenderen to claim another feature win in 2008. Nick Fenton would come home in third, Holt held on to finish in fourth, with John Oliver Jr. coming from 11th to round out the top 5. VanGenderen, Fenton, Greiner and Cook took home heat race wins, while Cody Henkes and Jim Redmann claiming the semis.

The final feature of the night was Mike's Tire & Alignment Modifieds, with Jason Perry and Michael Long drawing the front row. Long would grab the lead on the drop of the green flag, with Perry close behind in second. Long continued to lead the field, as Bruce Hanford, who started 12th, and Donovan Lodge, who started 10th, were working there way towards the front. Long held off Hanford and Lodge over the final laps to claim the feature win. Jim Lynch was fourth, with Vance Wilson coming from 8th to finish in 5th. Heat race wins went to Lynch, Tony Dunker, Tyler Cale and Perry, with Brad Moriarty claiming the semi.
