Wolfe Howling at the Creek
By Bill Nelson

SPRING VALLEY, MN (May 17) - A warm but Breezy day found a good field of cars and a nice crowd on hand for the Island Pool and Spa day at the speedway.

The Tim’s Repair and Towing WISSOTA Street Stocks were first up on the card for their feature event.  A complete restart was needed after the first attempt failed.  AJ Zvorak powered by out of four with the lead after drag racing Fred Prudoehl down the back straight.  Ryan Goergen and Troy Voth raced side by side for the fourth position early.  As the green flag laps clicked off the top seven cars settled into a single file line around the speedway.  Chuck Nerland sat in third with Troy Voth trying to work under him while Danny Hanson tried to take away the fifth spot from Ryan Goergen with ten to go.  Hanson completed the move into the fifth spot and started to battle with Voth for fourth as Voth continued to try and work on Nerland for third.  Those three continued to put on the battle for position until the checker flag waved while Zvorak cruised away out front to the win.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds had a great field of cars gain with over 30 of them in the pit area.  Jared Boumeester jumped from his front row staring spot to take the lead with AJ Wiste and Kenny Wytaske side by side in foruth.  Albert Wytakse sat in second and looked to the inside of Boumeester early on.  Sam Siskow say in third early with Wiste working past him for third with three laps completed.  The first caution flew when Dan Wheeler, K. Wytaske, Jimmie Arnold and Bryan Hernadez tried going four wide which will work easily on the wide speedway but they all wanted the same piece of track.  With fourteen to go A. Wytaske finally moved alongside of Boumeester for the lead.  With Wytaske in the lead the rest of the field had great battles going on as they ran two and three wide around the speedway.  A restart with seven to go set up the last remaining battle for the race.  Wheeler, Boumeester, Wiste, K. Wytaske and Hernandez where all in tight formation for the last five laps as Albert again pulled slowly away up front.  At the checkers it was Wheeler second, K. Wytaske third and Hernandez fourth.

Wyatt Wolfe Jr. started on the front row for the US Army WISSOTA Super Stock feature and used it to his advantage as he jumped out to an early lead with Cole Queensland and Chris Groth racing side by side for second.  Queensland took second with Chris Klinger now racing Groth for position.  With sixteen to go Klinger, Groth and Dustin Nelson were three wide for third as Wolfe jr. slowly put distance between him and the field.  A caution with ten to go saw Wolfe Jr. again pull out to a good lead on the start while Klinger, Queensland and now Brandon Jensen raced three wide for second.  Jensen made the lower groove work and pulled out into the second position while Klinger moved into third.  Wolfe Jr. stayed strong and held on for his first career feature win in the five years of racing.  He collected the normal $400 first place money, plus the Racine Travel Plaza bonus for $100.00 for having their sticker on the car and also local businessman Lyle Danielson form Peterson Motors put up an additional $100 for first place, bringing up Wolfe Jr’s first palce money to $600.00 and a well deserved trophy.

Joe Ludemann was also looking for his first career Valley Featherlite WISSOTA Late Model feature win.  Ludemann and Justin Sass ran side by side for the first lap from their front row starting position.  Sass rocketed to the lead on lap two as Keith Foss moved into third.  On lap two Foss cleared Ludemann for second and completed the pass on Sass for the lead before completing the next lap.  Mike Prochnow, Ben Mattick and Jeff Aikey were three wide behind Ludemann for fourth.  Aikey took control of the spot  Ludemann started working forward and took over the second spot from Sass on lap six.  A restart on the next lap bunched the field back up with Prochnow sliding up in front of Sass to take over third.  Aikey and Nick Herrick worked past Sass as they raced for position.  With eight laps remaining Prochnow started to work on Ludemann for the second spot. Prochnow found the top groove working and moved into second with five to go while Herrick followed Prochnow through to take over third.  Foss held on for the win with Prochnow close behind in second.

Tim Donlinger has had the hot hand at the redraw box through the first two weeks of the season.  Both times Donlinger drew the front row redraw for the feature event.  Donlinger bolted into the lead with Mark Noble and Joe Wernecke racing side by side for second.  Noble took second and moved alongside of Donlinger for the lead.  They drag raced down the back straight but Donlinger was too strong and held the preferred line early on.  A light shower hit and caused a brief rain delay after the five laps had been completed.  After a short break for the rain Brad Waits jumped into second with Ryan Gustin following past Noble for third.  The light rain changed the track and outside of the top five the cars were going three and four wide with some really fast cars having to come through the “B” feature now were making their charge through the field fun to watch.  Jay Ihrke and Tommy Myer started outside the top twenty and finished seventh and eighth.  Alan Mondus was the other car on the move although not making a big jump he slowly and patiently worked through the field first getting past Nate Wasmund and then working around Gustin to take over the fourth position by the end of the feature.  Donlinger came home with his second win at the track this season with Waits, and Noble rounding out the top three.

Next week racing action resumes at 5:00 with the United States Modified Touring Series on hand racing for $2000 to win.  Also on the card will be the WISSOTA Super Stocks for $600 to win and the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds for $400 to win.
