Brandon Davis Tops WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds
By Bill Nelson

SPRING VALLEY, MN (May 31) -  A Ό” of rain fell at 4:30 pm delaying the racing activity by 2 hours. Most of the drivers and crowd hung around and saw great racing action all night long. Quite a few cautions but only one feature went for more than 5 cautions, with the track being bladed before the racing there was no place for the drivers to pull off with flats etc. Throughout the night lightning flashes were seen within a few miles of the track as three more storms rolled through the area missing the speedway and allowing the racing action to be completed.

The Tim’s Repair and Towing WISSOTA Street Stocks were first up on the speedway. A complete restart was needed before Karl Hewitt Jr., jumped out to the early lead. Danny Hanson, Fred Prudoehl and Bobby Kilby were three wide for second early on. Prudoehl took control of second while the battle for third stayed on. Michael Conrad started eighth on the field and with three laps completed started pressuring Hanson for fourth. A caution slowed the field with twelve to go. Hanson had a great restart moving into second behind Hewitt as a three wide battle for third came down the front straight. Another caution flew with ten to go. This time Hewitt again took the lead but Conrad jumped up into the second spot. Eight to go found Troy Voth, AJ Zvorak and Hanson three wide for third as Conrad slowed and brought out another caution. On the restart the streeters were going three wide down the front straight when everything went willy nilly and the 19 car of Voth was up in the air, bouncing on the wall and rolling down the front straight. It was a pretty hard hit for everyone involved with Voth walking away from the wreck. Hewitt continued to lead on the restart and took home the win by a half straightaway over Scott Paulson. Paulson used the restart on the red flag to jump inside the top five and picked his way up to second by the end of the feature after starting twentieth on the field, Hanson finished third.

The US Army WISSOTA Super Stocks had issues early on with two starts that failed. The single file restart for the third attempt finally succeeded with Jason Gabrielson taking the early lead. Jeff Brauer and Ryan Siegle raced side by side for second. On lap two Siegle moved beside the leader as they raced for the lead. With three completed Siegle took over the point with Kevin Hager running fourth. A caution with four completed saw the same running order with Chris Groth, Dustin Nelson and Chris Klinger three wide for fifth. Groth found a higher line above the edge of the cushion and took off. Groth moved to third with ten to go until the high line cost him as he lost traction in turn two and dropped back to sixth. The final caution with six to go saw, Groth and Cole Queensland racing for fifth. Brauer sat comfortably in second with Hager and Nelson behind him. Siegle took home the win for this first feature win of the season.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds required a restart also with Pete Bushman jumping out to the early lead. Jared Boumeester was in second. Albert Wytaske was in a close third looking to move into second. With two completed Boumeester moved into the lead and then slipped in four bringing out a caution. Bushman led on the restart with Wytaske in second and Bob Bunne and Kenny Wytaske racing for third. Kenny moved into third and raced side by side with Albert for the second place for the next two laps while Brandon Davis slowly worked into fourth in a higher groove than anyone else. With eleven to go Albert, Bushman and Davis were now three wide for the lead. They continued the three wide race for a lap until another caution flew. The restart with nine to go was the break that Davis needed as he took over the lead and eventually the win. Albert finished second with Kenny third with Bushman in his best finish at the track coming home fourth.

The Valley Featherlite WISSOTA Late Models were affected by the first start as they had to try it twice to get going. Dennis Hillson and Nick Kramer were side by side for the lead with Keith Foss charging to the front in a hurry with Mark Teske in tow. On the second lap Hillson, Foss and Ben Mattick were three wide for second behind Kramer with Teske looking to make it a four wide race. It worked with Foss taking second and the lead on the next lap and Teske right behind Kramer in third. With twenty to go Foss was up working the cushion and Teske was running the bottom groove as they pulled steadily away from the field. Bob Timm and Nick Herrick worked their way into the top five. At the halfway point with Foss and Teske out front Timm worked past Kramer for third while Mattick sat in fourth. Mattick moved into third with ten to go as Timm hit the cushion hard in one and two. Now Timm had his hands full of Herrick who was being pressured by Mike Prochnow. Timm and Herrick touched with six to go allowing Prochnow to move into fourth. Herrick took the fifth spot while Kramer worked into sixth again at the end of the race.

Nate Wasmund led lap one of the EZ Fabricating USRA Modified feature. Jay Ihrke sat in second with Ron Konkel and Tim Donlinger racing for fourth. A restart on lap three saw Donlinger move into second with Ihrke and Konkel behind him. Donlinger took the lead on lap five and never looked back, Ihrke and wasmund raced each other hard and clean for the next five laps while the fans caught Bob Timm charging his was up through the field. Timm started sixteenth and with ten to go was working Konkel for the third spot. Timm took the position while Konkel slide back through the field slightly with Wasmund taking fourth and Jason Cummins with a strong run moving into fifth.
