Parody in the WISSOTA Super Stock Ranks with 6 Different Winners
By Bill Nelson

SPRING VALLEY, MN (June 21) - A little gusty with the winds today but otherwise temps hovered in the upper 70’s and the weather was perfect as a nice crowd gathered throughout the days racing activities.

The action for the day started with the Junior Pepsi Slingshots on the Button Buck Speedway. The juniors had the best race of the day with Lucas Schott jumping out to the early lead. Jackson Carter jumped into second early around Parker Hale early in the race until the handle left him in the start of a multiple car incident in turn two. On the restart Schott again pulled away from the field. Nia Gardner was exciting to watch as she worked up from the seventh starting spot to work into the third spot with six laps left. Alex Williamson had a good race also working into the top five. At the finish it was Schott with the win, Hale second and Gardner third.

Only three pee-wee slingshots showed up this week with Brayde Faulhaber jumping out to the early lead. Dustin Sorensen ran a close second for most of the race and JT Wasmund in third. As the white flag waved Faulhaber raced into turns one and two loosing the handle on his machine and spun out handing the win to Sorensen. Faulhaber came home second with Wasmund third.

Lucas Schott used his track knowledge to his benefit jumping into the early lead of the Regular Pepsi Slingshot division with Jeremy Paulson and Jordan Yaggy racing for second. Paulson pressured Yaggy throughout most of the race while Schott cruised up front. Cody Gardner was racing his way through the field after starting last in the feature event. He and Parker Hale had a great race for fourth through the middle section of the event while Paulson moved alongside of Yaggy for second. As the white flag waved Paulson got a great run and moved past Yaggy and alongside of Schott for the lead. Exiting two Paulson slid up enough for Yaggy to move back by and followed Schott home for a second place finish.

A four car battle into turn one and out of turn two was only the beginning of another awesome Tim’s Repair and towing WISSOTA Street Stock feature. Chuck Nerland took control of the race going into turn three with Tim Siskow, David Gustafson and James Patzner racing three wide for second. On the completion of lap one a big Malay started on the front stretch with Gustafson getting the short end of the stick as he hit turn one exit ramp head on. The ramp & foam block did their job shooting the young driver up and over the turn one wall and landing him on all four wheels. The car looked heavily damaged as the young driver walked away from the wreck. Nerland led on the restart with Troy Voth moving into second and putting pressure on him for the lead. Behind Voth Siskow, Danny Hanson and Ryan Goergen were three wide for third. Hanson took slight advantage and started pressuring Voth for second. Goergen sat patiently waiting for the battle up front to subside as he looked for his opening. A restart with twelve to go saw Goergen jump into second and start working Nerland low. Goergen took the spot two laps later. Nerland continued on the high line as Voth now moved into second. It looked to be a feature win for Goergen until a caution waved with two to go. On the restart Voth was able to get alongside of Goergen coming to the white. They ran side by side around the track and at the checkers it was Voth by a mere foot over Goergen. Nerland held on for third ahead of Hanson and Fred Prudoehl.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds pulled onto the track tonight. After last weeks caution free affair they had trouble tonight and after three restarts the single file version finally worked. Nick Johnson took the lead with Jimmie Arnold following close in second. Arnold dove low on lap two to take the lead while Dan Wheeler followed through into the second spot. A caution flew on lap two as Jerry Young’s car suddenly crossed down off of four towards the infield collecting the point leaders Brandon Davis and Jared Boumeester ending their nights. On the restart Arnold and Wheeler moved back into line. Wheeler kept working the bottom of the speedway while Arnold drove up slightly higher on the track. Wheeler took the lead with twelve to go and cruised home to the win.

I have always believed the US Army WISSOTA Super Stocks were one of the closest classes out there and tonight proved it again for the sixth time. Jason Gabrielson took the early lead with Ryan Siegle, Adam Stockhausen and Micheal Keller raced three wide for second. Siegle took the spot as Dustin Nelson looked fast and working his way up through the field with Chris Groth and Cole Queensland showing their power also. Nelson moved into second as Siegle, Groth and Stockhausen were three wide for third. A restart with fifteen to go saw Nelson take the lead away from Gabrielson. Siegle and Groth followed through into second and third. Queensland, Gabrielson and Chris Klinger had a great battle for fourth as the leaders sat single file and pulling away from the field. Groth was eventually able to take second away from Siegle as nelson took home his first feature win of the season at the speedway. In six nights of racing there have been six different WISSOTA Super Stock drivers in victory lane at the end of the night. Who will be the first to repeat a victory in the 2008 season?

Nick Herrick, Justin Sass and Dennis Hillson raced three wide the first lap of the Valley Featherlite WISSOTA Late Model feature with Sass taking control on lap two. Lance Matthees worked past them into second running a second Bloom racing entry tonight. Mike Prochnow continued to show his speed working into third early while the hot hand driver Keith Foss sat back in the field trying to move forward. Sass led until lap ten when he bobbled slightly allowing Matthees to take over the lead. Herrick then pressured Sass for second and took that spot two laps later. A late restart with eight to go saw Foss fly around the bottom of the speedway taking over the third position but was unable to gain any ground on the two up front who were flying around the top of the speedway. Matthees continued his hot streak of late taking home the win. Herrick was second and Foss finished third.

Brad Waits took the lead on the drop of the green during the EZ Fabricating USRA Modified feature event. Alan Mondus quickly moved into second. A caution after the first lap saw Tim Donlinger use the restart to his advantage and moved into the second spot. Mondus and Ryan York had a great race for third going until another caution flew with twenty to go. Waits continued to lead up front running the high line around the speedway while Donlinger raced low on the speedway. Nate Wasmund liked the restart as he found his way into third. Mike Sorensen and Jason Cummins fond the fast way in the next couple laps as they moved up into the top five. Wasmund had a big push in one corner and slipped back outside the top five. Waits continued to lead up front and took home with the win over Donlinger. Mondus came home third with Sorensen and Cummins staying in the top five.
