by Bill Nelson

SPRING VALLEY, MN (April 3, 2010) - A great field of cars and fans showed up for an early April race tonight with a cool breeze keeping everyone bundled up by the end of the racing action. The first ever regular points race night for the USRA B-Modifieds saw 24 cars on hand to test the high banks of Deer Creek Speedway. The B-Modifieds had a tough night getting going with a seven car incident on the initial start and then a five car incident on the restart. Finally one lap was completed with Tyler Johnson of Tea SD Taking the early lead. Jason Schlangen moved into second early with Chad Olsen and Andrew Kelly racing for third. Another caution slowed down the action and on the restart Johnson blasted back out front. Bob Bunne moved into the second spot with Olsen in third. Double wide racing behind the front three as Schlangen moved back past Bunne for second with five down. Another restart with ten to go saw Bunne move back into second. behind Johnson. Parker Hale was working on Brandon Hare for fifth. Hale took the spot as Darrin Korthals was racing Schlangen for third. Korthals took the spot while Hale made contact with a slower car knocking him back out of the top five with five to go. Hare moved past Schlangen with two to go. Johnson cruised home for the win whit Bunne, Korthals, Hare and Schlangen rounding out the top five.

Twenty One WISSOTA Street Stocks pulled onto the speedway for their opening night feature race. Dan Holland led lap one with AJ Zvorak in second followed by Tom Richards. With good racing through the field the action moved up to the front of the field with Richards moving into second. With fourteen to go Zvorak pushed up in two allowing Richards to take the lead. Holland and Zvorak were joined by Tim Johnson as the three went three wide for second down the back straight. Johnson lost the handle in three and four collecting Zvorak bringing out the caution. Both were able to continue as Richards led the field on the restart. Holland took second as Ryan Goergen, Troy Voth and Jeff Klopstein now raced three wide for fourth. They make contact going through the corner as Holland loses the handle on his machine. Now with ten to go Richards leads with Goergen taking over second. A restart with eight to go saw Danny Hanson race with Goergen for third as Travis Berends moved into the second spot. Berends put immediate pressure on the leader as Hanson, Goergen and Voth battled for third. Tim Johnson moved up to make it a four wide battle with three to go as Goergen made contact with Johnson sending him up and into Voth bringing out a final caution with three to go. Richards led to the finish with Berends, Hanson rounding out the top three. Danny Richards finished fourth with Tim Johnson rounding out the top five. In the tech area Tom Richards was Disqualified due to illegal brake rotors on the back of his mount handing the win to Berends.

Thirty Two WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds showed up to do battle on this night with Dan Wheeler jumping out to the early lead. Jerry Young moved up as the two raced side by side early on in a great battle until Wheeler again gained control. Bryan Hernandez sat in third. with Brandon Davis in fourth during the early action. With the front four seemingly content to ride in those positions most people watched the middle of the pack as some great three and even four wide racing took place. With ten go Hernandez hit the go button and moved past Young for the second spot and quickly started to gain ground on the leader. Jared Boumeester slowly worked his way into the top five as Hernandez moved past Wheeler for the lead. Wheeler stayed with Hernandez working different parts of the track looking for a faster groove. Wheeler made a charge coming to the white but was unable to take the win away from Hernandez. Davis and Boumeester followed Young across the line as the Midwest Modifieds ran the first caution free feature of the season.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks were a little short on cars tonight with twelve showing up to race but the action early on was outstanding. Dave Solum, Don Eischens and Zach Schultz battled for the lead early on with Eischens taking control of the race and leaving Solum and Schultz to race for second. Solum held on for second while Dustin Nelson moved up to race Schultz for third. Nelson took third with Jeff Brauer following him past Schultz. Two laps later Cole Queensland moved up past Schultz for fifth with Brauer now racing Nelson hard for third. With thirteen to go Nelson and Solum make contact sending cars sliding up into turn one with only a couple cars making it through before complete blockage occurs. The crash ended the night for Queensland, Schultz, Tony Bloom and Nelson. On the restart Eischens again took the lead as Dave Mass who made it through the wreck unscathed now ran in second. Brauer was able to take his crinkled mount and keep going in third ahead of Solum and Now Mike Loomis in fifth. The final six laps saw Mass slowly reel in Eischens up front with Eischens running up top and Mass coming in through the middle and turning down to exit on the bottom of the corners. Mass Was able to keep gaining as the laps wound down. Coming to the white Mass showed his nose to the inside out of four as he was quicker in three and four but Eischens was faster in one and two and moved out front again. As they came to the checkers Mass made a last push down low and pulled alongside at the checkers with Eischens taking the win by .241 seconds over Mass.

A great field of twenty four WISSOTA Late Models pulled onto the track for their feature with Nick Herrick and Jake Redetzke battling for the lead early on. The field was two and three wide early on as Herrick took control of the lead. Doug Herrick moved into third with Pat Doar and Adam Hensel now racing side by side for fourth. Doar took over fourth with four completed. Behind Hansel Cory Mahder and Mike Prochnow were side by side for sixth. Mahder took sixth spot and started to work on Hensel for fifth. With twelve laps left Mahder moved into fifth. With eight to go lap cars came into play with Redetzke working to get past Herrick up front which allowed the other Herrick, Doug to put pressure on Redetzke. Nick was too strong up front and held on for his first win of the season followed by Redetzke, and Doug. Doar and Mahder rounded out the top five.

Twenty nine USRA Modifieds made up the field tonight with Jay Ihrke getting the early lead with Ben Mattick running a close second. Kelly Shryock moved into third followed by AJ Wiste and Nate Wasmund. With three completed Todd Scharkey moved under Wasmund for fifth. The front two ran nose to tail and slowly pulled away from Shryock. With five completed Scharkey moved past Wiste for fourth and four laps later moved past Shryock for third. With ten to go the only caution flew, a restart that benefitted Scharkey more than anyone as the leaders were a straightaway ahead of the pack. On the restart Ihrke led the pack but Scharkey got a great run and moved past Ihrke for the lead out of two and into three. Ihrke kept the pressure on Scharkey to the finish but was unable to retake the lead. Bob Timm moved into the top five on the last restart dropping Wiste back to sixth.
