Chad Mahder Tops Dart Challenge Race at "THE CREEK"

by Bill Nelson

SPRING VALLEY, MN (July 3) - A absolutely huge field of cars checked into the pit gate on this Independence Day Weekend with 141 cars including 43 WISSOTA Late Models for the Dart Challenge Series Race.

Pat Doar jumped out the early lead with in the Dart Challenge Series feature with Lance Matthees and Chad Mahder side by side for third behind Jake Hartung in second.  After four laps Mahder moved into the second spot.  Kyle Peterlin moved past Travis Budisalovich for fifth just as the only caution for  the event flew.    Doar again charged out to the lead on the restart with Mahder in second.  Further back in the field it was three wide racing in the pack as some cars started their charge towards the front.  Matthees took third away from Hartung with seven down as the front five started to spread out slightly.  Ten down and Budisalovich took fifth away from Hartung while Adam Hensel sat right behind them.  Fifteen laps down and now there was a race up front as Mahder moved along side of Doar for the lead.  Two laps later Mahder drove around the outside of Doar for the lead.  Matthees started to pressure Doar for second on lap twenty as the front three started to encounter lapped traffic.  Twenty three laps into the feature and Matthees cleared Doar for second.  Mahder struggled to get through the first pack of lapped cars as they ran side by side for positions.  Mahder eventually cleared the pack as Matthees closed up on his tail.  Thirty two down and Peterlin and Budisalovich raced side by side for fourth.  Peterlin took the spot.  As the laps wound down Mahder again fought to get through another pack of cars with Matthees again rapidly closing.  With four laps left Mahder started to pull away again as he cleared lap traffic.  Peterlin moved past Doar with three laps left in the race to take over third.  Mahder took home the checkers followed by Matthees and Peterlin.  Peterlin took home the $250 Keizer Wheels certificate while Keith Foss took home the $100 hard Charger award from Lou Fegers racing after moving from twenty second to ninth.

Joel Alberts jumped out to the early lead in the EZ fabricating USRA Modifieds with Mike Sorensen falling in behind him in second.  Josh Mattick sat in third with AJ Wiste and Ryan York sat inside the top five.  Another caution flew with five completed which saw Alberts again leading the way with Sorensen in second.  Josh Angst and Mattick were side by side for third. Jason Cummins sat in fifth behind them.  Next lap Cummins moved past Mattick and pressured Angst for third.  With eight completed Cummins now sat in third while Alberts continued to lead by about 4 car lengths.  Another caution with ten down saw Alberts leading with Sorensen pressuring him hard.  A big gaggle of cars raced for positions five through ten for the next three laps, while up front Sorensen moved past Alberts for the lead.  With fourteen complete Alberts and Cummins were side by side for the second spot.  Cummins took the spot two laps later  Darrin Walch worked into the top five as he sat in fourth.  With five laps left Walch took over third but two laps later Alberts worked past Walch again for third.  Al Hejna moved into fifth after starting twenty third on the field with three left.  The race up front got tight with two to go as Cummins moved alongside of Sorensen for the lead.  Sorensen was not to be denied the win and pulled back out front as the checkers flew.

The US ARMY WISSOTA Super Stocks pulled onto the track for their feature event.  Kevin Hager jumped out front with Ryan Siegle in second.  Dave Solum sat in third, Gary Wiersgalla in fourth with Cole Queensland and Tim Williamson racing for fifth early on.    Siegle moved up to race Hager for the top spot with three down while Wiersgalla looked to join in on the fun.  Siegle took the spot with five down  but Hager kept close and challenged him for the next four laps.  Queensland and Wiersgalla were now side by side for third as Jeff Brauer worked into the top five.  A restart at the halfway point saw Siegle again leading with Queensland and Hager racing for second.  Queensland took the spot with Brauer soon following through into third.  The top three stayed this way to the finish with Siegle taking home the checkers.

Ric Fynbo led the opening laps of the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature event with Jerry Young and Jared Boumeester racing for second.  Boumeester took over second and on lap three took the lead as Fynbo pushed up in turn four.  Young followed through into second  Brandon Davis worked past Fynbo for third with four down and Dustin Scott moved into fourth on lap five.  With six down the battle up front got tight as Davis, Boumeester and Young were three wide for the lead.  young dropped back as he tried to hold off Scott for third.  A caution with seven down tightened up the bunch.  Boumeester led with Scott moving into second, two laps later Scott moved ahead of Boumeester for the lead with Davis now challenging for the second spot.  Davis took second as Boumeester pulled to the infield.  Young inherited third with Fynbo and Dan Wheeler in the top five.  Fynbo moved back around Young on the last lap to take over third as Scott took home the win.

Brian Schrage led lap one of the Hinz Trucking USRA B-Modified feature event with Brandon Hare, Troy Hovey and Colter Deutsch three wide for second early on.  Hare took second on the next lap and moved under Schrage for the lead.  Deutsch quickly moved into second with Kylie Kath and Schrage battling for third.  Schrage moved up high on lap five and moved back into the second spot as a caution stacked up the field.  On the restart a big shuffle saw Schrage with the lead Kath into second and Greg Mattick moving into third.  Kath worked back around Schrage to take over the lead on lap eight while Mike Jaeger continued his charge forward working into the top five with nine down.  Ten down Jaeger moved past Hovey for fourth and set his eyes on Mattick in third.  Mattick worked past Schrage for third with Jaeger following through with fifteen completed but up front it was all Kylie Kath as he cruised home to his first win at the speedway.  Mattick held on for second ahead of Jaeger, Schrage and hare.

The BP WISSOTA Street Stocks had another dandy feature tonight with Karl Hewitt Jr. leading early on.  Tory Voth and Dan Holland were two wide for second.  Holland and Voth exchanged second place for the next three laps until the first caution of the event flew sending AJ Zvorak to the tail.  ON the restart Voth and Holland split Hewitt Jr. to take their battle to the front.  Danny Hanson worked into fourth on lap eight as he moved Jim Gustafson but most of the fans were watching up front as Voth and Holland were still side by side for the lead.  With ten down Hanson worked past Hewitt Jr. for the third spot.  A caution with thirteen down saw the field bunch back up and ended the side by side race for the lead.  On the restart Hanson drove outside of the leaders to take over the top spot.  AJ Zvorak was flying up top and moved around the duo to take over the second spot and start pressuring Hanson for the lead. Another caution flew just as it looked like Zvorak may pass Hanson for the lead.  With a green, white checker dash to the finish Hanson made his car wide running different lines every corner keeping Zvorak guessing on his next move.  Hanson took home the win followed by Zvorak and Holland.  Voth dropped out at the last caution with Gustafson and Hewitt Jr. rounding out the top five.
